  • Minimum hardware requirements for Android 3.0 devices are: 1GHZ CPU, 512MB or RAM, displays from 3.5” and higher.  (We all, of course, heard that Android handsets with 2GHz CPU’s are coming)

  • Completely revamped user interface. If you want to get a feeling of what Android 3.0 Gingerbread UX is like, check out the Gallery app on Nexus One. The same overall feel, light animated transitions, etc. Natively, through all the UI.

it is the next version of the android operating system...but doesn't appear to be coming any time soon. your phone's operating system is updated from time to time with added features...much like windows 95 to 98 to now...vista, then windows 7.

You clowns, absolutely suck!  Just get this update out.  Gingerbread has been out for 9 months.  This is poor!

Contrary to the sadly sophomoric replies I see here, I am glad to be spared the potential grief that could come from a premature launch of this update.

It's so sad to see how entitled and spoiled people have become. And even worse when in the event of being given something of value that they weren't even expecting and it's being provided for free. Disgusting really.

I would have to agree.. Would rather them work out the bugs in the OS before they release.

Contrary to this guy, I'm upset. Gingerbread has been out for quite a while, being released for phones that came out before and after the Incredible. HTC/verizon's timetable for our updates just doesn't exist. This is not how software testing is supposed to work. No one wants it before its ready, but it is apparent that we are not a priority at all. Who could even guess when it will actually be pushed out to all users? Verizon did a horrible job pushing out froyo, in fact they never bothered to push it to me at all. After two months I gave up on Verizon and downloaded it myself from an xda page of users who were also tired of waiting. This should not be how it works either. Verizon should just post a link that customers can get to online since their ancient formula for pushing out OTA updates doesn't help the end user whatsoever. They never sent me froyo, even after calling twice to see if I get them to push it to me. I preordered the incredible before its release, and what I should have done is just waited for the Verizon iPhone-at least that way I wouldn't have to be depending on the wonder twin powers of Verizon/HTC to activate......

Don't pretend you know me.  I can get my thesaurus out and sound self-important too.  I am not entitled, nor am I spoiled.  I have a phone with problems the jack wagons at Verizon said would be fixed with the GB update.  I am sick and tired having a phone that works half the time.  What's disgusting is that you felt the need to come on here and criticize people for being upset.  Hey, VZW wants us too keep these phones for two years, then they need to support them for two years.  PERIOD!

Can we all just calm down a bit?

I'm guessing that Gingerbread is not going to result in a huge performance improvement in our phones, and the added features aren't a quantum leap forward.  For those whose phones have been plagued by glitches, I'm also guessing that the upgrade will not solve those glitches, and most likely will lead to further problems.  Fortunately for me, my phone has been relatively trouble-free (although I did have to send my first one back after getting a replacement with very little hassle), so I'm not itching for an update anyway.

Mark my words, when everyone starts getting their updates, most of the comments will be along the lines of "meh" and/or "UPDATE BRICKED MY PHONE!!??!!"

Any of you Verizon employees have an update on when the OTA will go out?  Or is it stay in the dark for another month, again?  I wish you people would learn to communicate!

FWIW, I think it's GREAT Verizon, but more importantly, HTC are supporting the Droid Incredible despite it being discontinued.  I pre-ordered the Incredible and received it 2 days before "official release" - since then I anxiously awaited Froyo, and when it came, it offered only incremental improvement.  Then later, there was talk the Dinc would be updated to Gingerbread, and then rumors back and forth that it wasn't going to happen.

Now, if there was to be no update, I wouldn't have blamed Verizon; I'd have been very ticked at HTC, and seriously probably never would have considered another device (notwithstanding, that unbeknowst to me I'd owned HTC devices since my first iPAQ circa 2000 - only lately have they become a local brand).

The fact that they ARE willing to upgrade their discontinued device is terrific.  A consumer expects support, not necessarily continued improvements.

I have little hope the Dinc will have official support for Ice Cream Sandwich when it comes out (but hey, props to the modding community), however I think it's great the Dinc is getting official support for Gingerbread.

I applaud Verizon - sure, I'd have liked the update months ago, but as some posters have said, far better to have a stable, polished product, than merely race it to the door and have issues.

There is also something to be said to the posters who said, essentially, "two year hardware committment shoudl have two year support" - I wholeheartedly agree, however support for errors, warranty replacement, and tech support is not the same as an OS upgrade - I think that part is a real value added bonus.

Verizon generally has the best coverage in my area, and I'm entrenched with them, with 4 lines, with contracts expiring in a staggered manner, so it is hard for me to disentangle from VW - it is FAR from perfect, and I generally hate Verizon with a passion (the land line division).  If VW did not support the Dinc upgrade, and HTC offered it, I'd be really ticked off with VW, however if neither supported the Gingerbread upgrade I'd put the blame on HTC and stay with Verizon (for the foreseeable future).  I view the upgrade as a real win to me, and to whomever I sell my phone when I upgrade roughly next April (2 years).

I do wish Verizon had let on earlier that the upgrade was coming, and an approximate target, instead of the rumors, and silence - seeing the Upgrade Coming on the support page is fine - sure, I want it now, but at least I know it is coming, and apparently soon.

Given that this MIGHT be the last official update that the DROID Incredible gets, I would rather that they take all the time they need to give us something to last us until we find our next new phone. For me it will probably be an Icecream Sandwich phone....

Also for those who really can't wait or don't want to wait, there are a lot of unofficial roms already available out there which get the job done really well....

For me, I've had my DROID Incredible since it first came out (I preordered). I have not had any of the major issues that people have been complaning about ... I guess I got lucky! Smiley Happy

Too many of you are too forgiving of THESE PEOPLE........And what the Hell difference does it matter what I refer to these people as....they aren't going to communicate anything but the company line anyway.  ATTENTION:  This is not a state secret.

I really wish some of you people in here would let people come in here and express as much outrage as they want about this issue.  You cannot control how people feel.  Most of you are probably rooted anyway and really don't care or don't possess the technical knowledge to even realize what an update is about.  The fact of the matter is I shouldn't take 6-9 months to make an operating available in a phone that can run it.  Maybe Verizon should leave their bloatware crap out of the update?!!?

@JMKosmo, and what makes you an expert at determining that an update should be out in 6-9 months? I don't pretend to know how much time it should or should not take an update to come out.

And no I am not rooted, and yes I know exactly what rooting is and what an update is. However, it is my own personal choice that has kept me from rooting. As you said, if you and others like you should be allowed to be outraged, so should I and others like me be allowed to defend what we think is correct.

The forums are open, no one has banned you or anyone else from spreading the negative sentiment. However, if we try to put an optimist positive spin on it, you should not be taking an offense to it.

You show your displeasure by venting here, we show our support by disapproving your venting.

If I may speak for myself, I normally am here supporting and trying to help users, not just putting out negativity. I personally don't speak to how long an update should take as I have no clue what their process and and what HTC's process is before things start rolling. Imagine if these same folks were rushing updates out and bricking devices, you and others like you would be right here doing the same thing that you are doing now.

Just my two cents which I feel I'm as entitled as you to share.

Man, it's getting hot in the kitchen here. When one of the other Motorla Droids got it's Gingerbread update in May it was pulled the day it OTA'd and kept on ice for 3 months thereafter and now it's about to come out again in a "soak test". I don't know if VZW is going to "soak" us too with this OTA but it sure smells fishy to me. But then again they never did say in the posted changelog which is "coming soon" exactly when so who knows how long we have to wait.

Was it pulled for a bug?

Or was it pulled because they want to gimp some "feature" (ahem) that isn't getting "blocked" right....

I'll throw my whining 2 cents in... how about it VZW, how about an update? You put the PDF out there stating "coming soon"...over two weeks ago.

(I know I'm just not going to get a reply, but I figure what the heck, may as well try...)

The upgrade from 2.2 to 2.3 on my Aishuo TMD mini 816 made a HUGE difference in battery life.  Battery life (or lack thereof) is my only complaint with my Dinc running 2.2.  As for the promised update: I'll believe it when I see it.

Ok, MarquiaF_VZW, any news? Or are you going to be typical and just say ... nothing. Or "follow our twitter and facebook for more info"... or rather follow that to bump up our social network numbers, not for any meaningful info...
