Here is some basic info regarding the new upcoming update. If you have any new information PLEASE update this thread and attach some links for all of us to follow.
- Android 3.0 Gingerbread will be released in mid- October (around 15 -16th), 2010. First handsets shipping in November/December – for the Holiday Season.
- Minimum hardware requirements for Android 3.0 devices are: 1GHZ CPU, 512MB or RAM, displays from 3.5” and higher. (We all, of course, heard that Android handsets with 2GHz CPU’s are coming)
- New 1280×760 resolution available for the devices with displays of 4” and higher. (Anyone thinking about Android tablets now? )
- Completely revamped user interface. If you want to get a feeling of what Android 3.0 Gingerbread UX is like, check out the Gallery app on Nexus One. The same overall feel, light animated transitions, etc. Natively, through all the UI.
- Android’s split into 2 branches becomes official. 3.0 for top of the line/high end devices. Cheap, low-end mass market handsets will keep Android 2.1/2.2
Just a few jabs to get the fire started. Keep it nice here please, and lets help each other be the highest informed forum on the net! GO GINGERBREAD!!!!!

it is the next version of the android operating system...but doesn't appear to be coming any time soon. your phone's operating system is updated from time to time with added features...much like windows 95 to 98 to now...vista, then windows 7.

Thanks for helpin a old man out. sometimes even i've got to learn something new. B33
Update: found the issue in Hand now what i wonder is how is it going to be Fixed because if says sprint an made for sprint phones it may work for Verizon phones an then again it may not. So i would say an email needs to be sent to Google or contact CS at Verizon if they can help at all. i'll do some checking around an see if i can come up with something.

Glad you geniuses took two weeks to work out the bugs......If you want, I can go get a real Sprint phone, since you are so willing to change me over anyway. What kills me is that the developers caught this in May....Shaking my head.

if you go into the market and apps., scroll down and below editors choice it shows Sprint...click in there and it has some sprint apps. thanks, I did mean sd card and not the sim card.
Thank you, we are aware of this issue and it has been reported to our product team. They are currently investigating and once a fix is implemented you will receive another update to your device.

I'm glad to hear that they are working on this, it not just in the market, also in hardware information. I figured something was very wrong after the update when my Hardware version changed from 0002 (AMOLED screen) to 0003 (slcd screen). Now when I use the camera it has a lot of "noise" that was never there before the update. Has anyone else noticed this using the camera? This was the one of the main reasons why I choose to get this phone with the Amoled screen when it was first released.

Under "About Phone" "Hardware Version"... I see version 0002 on my Dinc. Are you saying that Hardware Version 0002 solely equates to the AMOLED screen and nothing else? How would that effect the camera? Haven't recieved my update yet, but now you have me concerned.

Oh, and still waiting for my update here in Mass. Looks like updates are pushed in the early AM, from reports I've seen, so I guess I have to wait until tomorrow morning for the next check. (If anyone got theirs in the middle of the day, speak up )

My phone was ready to update this morning but I've been delaying it. What should I know about before diving into this?
Some folks are saying apps may stop working (especially if they are on the SD). Would re-downloading and re-installing fix any broken apps?
What else can break? Is there any risk of losing contacts? Texts? Photos/vids? App data? Are there any good methods of backing stuff up?

I'm most definitely NOT a VZW employee. If a post answered your question, please mark it as the answer.

Thank you for the suggestion, folks.
I may have to try that, even though it looks like it will wipe my phone clean

So, I've got a Dinc, with no service plan, or data plan... Just Wifi. Will I be getting the OTA or do I have to activate the phone in order to receive it?

I was in the same boat. I had to download it manually from the Internet via wifi. Worked for me. I assume that verizon would not be pushing it to a phone that is no longer on a voice or data plan.

Where did you download the official update from? Could you provide a link?
