Here is some basic info regarding the new upcoming update. If you have any new information PLEASE update this thread and attach some links for all of us to follow.
- Android 3.0 Gingerbread will be released in mid- October (around 15 -16th), 2010. First handsets shipping in November/December – for the Holiday Season.
- Minimum hardware requirements for Android 3.0 devices are: 1GHZ CPU, 512MB or RAM, displays from 3.5” and higher. (We all, of course, heard that Android handsets with 2GHz CPU’s are coming)
- New 1280×760 resolution available for the devices with displays of 4” and higher. (Anyone thinking about Android tablets now? )
- Completely revamped user interface. If you want to get a feeling of what Android 3.0 Gingerbread UX is like, check out the Gallery app on Nexus One. The same overall feel, light animated transitions, etc. Natively, through all the UI.
- Android’s split into 2 branches becomes official. 3.0 for top of the line/high end devices. Cheap, low-end mass market handsets will keep Android 2.1/2.2
Just a few jabs to get the fire started. Keep it nice here please, and lets help each other be the highest informed forum on the net! GO GINGERBREAD!!!!!

it is the next version of the android operating system...but doesn't appear to be coming any time soon. your phone's operating system is updated from time to time with added features...much like windows 95 to 98 to now...vista, then windows 7.

Be Careful. While our members are generally helpful and eager to provide useful information, be advised that Verizon Wireless has no obligation to monitor these linked sites, and is not responsible for them. Accessing any such linked sites is done entirely at the user's own risk.

Verizon has delayed the 2.3 update because of some bugs..."memory full" error message that some users are receiving. Check the link below.

Ummm.... No.
That would be for the Droid 2 Global:
"The update to Android 2.3 for the Droid 2 Global from Verizon has been stopped and suspended until further notice."

Thank you
It's sad when we have to go outside regular channels to find solutions to problems created by Verizon. Could you have offered me a genuine, approved link instead???

Friday AM and haven't gotten my update yet, but I hope they issue a bug-fix that takes care of the Sprint issue and the SD card apps issue too. Don't know if there are any other major bugs.

Has this update stopped rolling out? It seems a lot of people are still waiting. No one has made mention of receiving the update since last Thursday.

I have been getting 2 different ' Low on Space' messages
'Low on Space' - phone storage space is getting low and
'Storage almost Full' - please make at least 512KB free space to receive messages. Tap to manage your ap
When I do 'tap it' it takes me to manage apps and this is what I see
internal storage - 298MB used and 450MB free
SD card - 9.1 GB used and 5.9 GB free
RAM - 153MB used and 226MB free
This phone worked flawlessly until this update!!!
I am very disappointed.
I hope they do something to fix it soon.

@ajscan & ABL
You guys may have to do a FR on your D inc's to set a clean slean slate for gingerbread i'm thinking about doing this my self there have been spurious things pop up my inc but what i have in apps is different than what you guys have an it may boil down to apps causing some of the issues. an a Fr on the inc. is easy an your apps can be saved you paid apps will show back up via your gmail. acc, an there apps that will save your unpaid apps an as for your contacts just save them to your Sd Card. Tap people > then tap menu an on the left hand corner were it say import / export tap there an your contacts will go to the Sd Card. when your programing is done go to this area again tap the same place an your contacts will be back in place. give the Fr a try an see if it helps. it's worth a shot. an it may help clear up your issues. good luck. I've been a Droid Incredible owner for over a yr. I also keep reading a lot of conflicting stories about the Gingerbread update. Can anyone shed some light on this subject. I am a little hesitant to update my phone because it has been running pretty good. Is this a stable OS for the dinc, or should I stay away. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

@livingthedream good year my dad had a 68 chevelle an welcome to the forum: Well on my incredible things have went so far Ok its got the Gingerbread gremlin as its cousin the droid X does. But other than that things on mine are fairly stable i no some are complaining with issuses an that can be from all sorts of things from apps not playing nice with ginger as they did with fro-yo to screen freezez an others in general.
So i'd say if you have the Update an want to give it a shot go ahead an install it. You can't go back how ever once the deal is done though. An i've been telling ones if there incountering issues do A Factory Reset especially if U haven't done one in while. you'll have to back your up your data an apps. but thats not to bad of a chore there are some good things in the new OS build i like the flip Clock for instance an the message indicator has change alittle an there are new features you can turn off an on. one for the ladies is if there phone is in there purse the phone can be set to ring louder while in it . So there are some neet things in the new
Os you just have to take that leap an see if works for ya
Good luck with it an again welcome to the Forum: B33
P.s i wished i had my dad's 68 chevelle She was Hot an Fast.!

@ B33, thanks for some info. Im still not sure Im willing to pancake my phone full of glitches and issues. I am waiting for a good deal on a 4g LTE phone and dont want to limp into a replacement with my phone all FUBARED. Phone is running solid and finally have a reliable phone. All i can surmize from all these OS updates is that the phones get real sketchy.

I downloaded the leaked .2 build RUU (full ROM flash) from the blogosphere, let it sit around on my computer for 2 weeks, never got update so finally took the plunge and installed it. I don't know what bug it had that they updated the build in the OTA but it's working great for me. No text msg issues, no SD card issues, no reboot isues, dont have car bluetooth so I don't know about that, only thing so far is that the new bluetooth tethering mode gives me modem errors (I don't have the tethering plan) whereas the hotspot and usb options connect and give me the VZW signup page, so I don't know why the bt option won't give me that pge.
I think the reason things went smoother is because everything was re-flashed and properly initalized and installed in proper sequence. It fixed the flaky scroll in the browser I had too, really am happy for that, which I'm sure was due to a glitchy ROM install at the factory. The OTA on the other hand, can easily causde install glitches of one kind or another thereby breaking different things on different phones. The downside of a full ROM flash of course is that you havde to re-install your contacts apps and bookmarks from scratch but personally the inconvienience is well worth it. I do NOT like OTA's. Not to mention they take WEEKS to roll out.
Give me an RUU that I can pull and flash at my convienience, verizon. Far less opportunity for all these funky glitches, and I don't wanna keep having to go to rogue site for leaked builds.

You can go to any of the droid blogs, e.g. androidpolice.com, droid-life.com, do a search on incredible gingerbread update and find the link to the leak. I can't post it here, or the mods will pull it. This is "officicial" build, so no rooting is necessary, and the instructions to download, rename and install it are clear, but you must be careful to do things EXACTLY right or the install will fail.
I had no problems installing it, and it took about 15 minutes, but you have to watch to andwer some OK prompts during the install from the boot loader.
A word about rooting: I wasn't rooted before I installed this RUU, and as it is, this install is NOT rootable without bootloader modifications, so if you want to root you must either do some prep work first or stay away for now.
I did sone some official RUU installs on my old Motorola Q (WindowsMobile) so this process wan't entirely unfamiliar to me, and Ithose RUUs were officially sanctioned by Verizon and were available from Motorola's website. This is why I don't understand why Verizon won't sanction RUU's from HTC's site for this phone also. This OTA baloney is a real pain and basically a mess.
