Here is some basic info regarding the new upcoming update. If you have any new information PLEASE update this thread and attach some links for all of us to follow.
- Android 3.0 Gingerbread will be released in mid- October (around 15 -16th), 2010. First handsets shipping in November/December – for the Holiday Season.
- Minimum hardware requirements for Android 3.0 devices are: 1GHZ CPU, 512MB or RAM, displays from 3.5” and higher. (We all, of course, heard that Android handsets with 2GHz CPU’s are coming)
- New 1280×760 resolution available for the devices with displays of 4” and higher. (Anyone thinking about Android tablets now? )
- Completely revamped user interface. If you want to get a feeling of what Android 3.0 Gingerbread UX is like, check out the Gallery app on Nexus One. The same overall feel, light animated transitions, etc. Natively, through all the UI.
- Android’s split into 2 branches becomes official. 3.0 for top of the line/high end devices. Cheap, low-end mass market handsets will keep Android 2.1/2.2
Just a few jabs to get the fire started. Keep it nice here please, and lets help each other be the highest informed forum on the net! GO GINGERBREAD!!!!!

it is the next version of the android operating system...but doesn't appear to be coming any time soon. your phone's operating system is updated from time to time with added features...much like windows 95 to 98 to now...vista, then windows 7.

Someone needs to work on this fix right away! This is ridiculous, Madden 12 is free this weekend and guess what??? I have no access to the VStore App because my phone still thinks it's sprint. "Other sources" had an early copy of this update and knew about all the bugs months before they released this to our phones and still we get all the bugs. Get it together Verizon, how can you release such a bad update to the public and not say a word on when it's getting fixed?!

FWIW, if you already have unlimited data, you are in, even if you move to a 4G phone.

Whats some of the benefits of this phone getting Gingerbread? I'm curious because now that ICS is released it seems these Android versions are minor tweaks and nothing really game changing. I'm starting to reconsider my views on how important these updates really are to my day to day phone use. Other than some internet calling and a slight speed boost this update is not going to make a new phone, Its just going to put a little new life into the phone for a week till ICS comes crushing down on your brain. I think the 2.1 build was solid on the phone. The phone was powerful and reliable. 2.2 was an inprovement but that seemd to be the slippery slope down for the Incredible. "The forgotten superphone" I'd call this guy. I love it, I appreciate it, I hate the support it's recieved. Custom Roms are the way to go on this little guy.

So after months of asking what was goign on with the upgrade. We got the phones because they said they would be getting the 2.3 update within 3 months so we went with the Incredibles over other phones available. Luckily I am anal about keeping emails and have the rep telling me exactly that so I will not be paying the early disconnect fee. It's just another attempt at the cell phone companies to get you to pay for new phones rather than update them. I had T-mobile prior and they did the same with my last two phones with them. At least they came out and said we're not updating anything, unlike Verizon who keeps apssing hte buck and not answering anyone.
As soon as Sprint changes my number over and ships my iPhone it's bye bye Verizon. Sadly for them I'm canceling my home phone, internet and cable with them also.

I just updated my phone and now none of the apps stored on my SD card work. I've spent several hours trying to fix the issue to no avail. This update officially sucks.

I got my update, and I just had to unmount and remount my SD card and my apps were ok.
Market still says "Sprint" is about the only thing I have noticed that is wrong so far. Texting seems to be ok as well. Know some people had texting issues originally.

Its the same 4.0.6 update that was buggy and sent out before where is the new 4.0.8 update that is shown on the new PDF. I assume maybe they are updating everyone to the same buggy pulled 4.0.6 update since is 87mb then pushing out the fix update which is only like 8mb to make it 4.0.8
I just dont get why they would push this crappy update to everyone when it caused so many problems before. Now there will be a ton of new people that didnt get the update before having all the problems others had.
Wrong hardware specs
Sprint in the market
LOS error
Texting error
Apps dissapearing
Bluetooth issues
etc
etc
Come on Verizon get it right!!!!!!!!

Yeah, looks to be what they are doing:
Everyone has to go to the 4.0.6 one, then you will get an update to go to 4.0.8 that corrects the issus.
I moved to 4.0.6 this morning...wonder how long I have to wait to get the 4.0.8 update now?

This morning I got the update notification and decided to go for it even though I know the previous rollout to the Incredible was buggy and they pulled it. After selecting Update the phone appeared to start the process, showing a status of "rebooting" along with a Cancel option. After about 5 minutes and still no reboot I figured it failed so I clicked Cancel. Nothing happened so I did a manual shut down figuring when it powered on the notification would return or it would automatically continue where it left off when I powered down. Neither has occurred and the software is still at 2.2 and System Updates says it is curently up to date.
Does anyone know when I should get another update notification? Is there a way to get it manually? My phone is not rooted.

Has anyone who moved to 4.6.605.3 over the last 24 hours moved forward again to 4.8.605.2?
I hope were not waiting for weeks to get the final updates.
BTW, for the apps on SD problem, try unmounting and remounting the SD card from "Settings" -> "SD & Phone Storage". Then if that doesn't get your SD apps back, try going to "Settings" -> "Applications" -> "Manage Applications" -> "On SD card", and take one of the SD card apps and try moving it to the phone and then back again to the SD card. This resolved the issue for me. However, it seems that I have to unmount remount manually whenever the phone is rebooted.

Updated this morning to the pushed version of Gingerbread, serious issues already cropping up. One particularly awful issue is that when I'm on a phone call and a text message comes in, the notification chimes and it ruins the phoene call... the call stays connected but no audio comes in or out, the line goes silent. This makes the device unusable as a phone for anyone that receives a lot of texts.
Any update on when a fix for this is coming? It appears to have the 4.6 Build, if what I'm reading is true about a 4.8 version hot on the update's heels, I really need to know how soon to expect it.

UPDATE:
Regarding the issue I am having above, it turns out that receiving a text during a call is actually disabling Bluetooth. I have repeated it with a 100% failure rate.

I'm having the same problem as glasstiger. I got the update notification this morning. I clicked ok, it said it was preparing to reboot and install, it never rebooted, just went to the system updates screen which said your divice is up to date, still 2.2. The update notice has not come back, I even rebooted the phone hoping that would work, but still nothing.
