  • Android 3.0 Gingerbread will be released in mid- October (around 15 -16th), 2010. First handsets shipping in November/December – for the Holiday Season.
  • Minimum hardware requirements for Android 3.0 devices are: 1GHZ CPU, 512MB or RAM, displays from 3.5” and higher.  (We all, of course, heard that Android handsets with 2GHz CPU’s are coming)
  • New 1280×760 resolution available for the devices with displays of 4” and higher. (Anyone thinking about Android tablets now? )
  • Completely revamped user interface. If you want to get a feeling of what Android 3.0 Gingerbread UX is like, check out the Gallery app on Nexus One. The same overall feel, light animated transitions, etc. Natively, through all the UI.
  • Android’s split into 2 branches becomes official. 3.0 for top of the line/high end devices. Cheap, low-end mass market handsets will keep Android 2.1/2.2

Just a few jabs to get the fire started. Keep it nice here please, and lets help each other be the highest informed forum on the net!                                            GO GINGERBREAD!!!!!

it is the next version of the android operating system...but doesn't appear to be coming any time soon. your phone's operating system is updated from time to time with added features...much like windows 95 to 98 to now...vista, then windows 7.

@ShoalsRebel...I did the factory reset also and it was on the 4.06 build. Before installing any apps(email included) I updated to the 4.08 and it updated just fine. I haven't had any issues.

I got the update last week. Does anyone come across the issue of delayed call pickup?

When I get a call, I pick it up, there is probably a 2 second delay before the mic goes full duplex. Meaning I can't hear the other end and the other end can't hear me for the initial 2 seconds.

This is driving me nuts. Any idea?

I am still on the 4.06 update but my DINC does the exact same thing. Not sure what heck is going on with these OTA updates but I hope they get this fixed ASAP!!!

I have a friend who has the Incredible...and hasn't even updated to GB yet...and, he is constantly complaining about the laggy call connect.  It's weird.  I can actually hear it kick in after answering..

Hello, Hello?  lol

I have a fix for those of us who are stuck but I 'm not allowed to talk about it, or my post will get deleted, according to the terms of this site we are not allowed to talk about mod actions on these threads, and I can't talk about my fix even tho it does not involve rooting or hacking, yet I'm told it is.

For those of you that are stuck, search android central for manual update to 4.06.

I hope this post does not get deleted, as all I did was dicsuss the terms of the board and not any mod actions.

I'm so happy that this board has no answers and they quiet those of us that do have answers.

Stuck on Froyo 2.2, Build 3.26? Thanks to another community member, I successfully updated from Froyo (2.2), Build 3.26 to Gingerbread (2.3.4), Build 4.08 by first installing a manual update to Build 4.06. Then the 4.08 OTA immediately downloaded and installed. Thank you!!

I first got notice for GB update on Nov 15 morning, thought I would wait until I had at least half hour to download the update then the notice dissappeared and I couldn't get it back. Tried the checkin thing but no luck. Then Nov 18 evening, I was messing with the phone, powered it off then on and then did the checkin again, there it was the download started, it was the 4.08 build. I quickly plugged the phone to charger and let it do its thing. It took about 20 minutes, rebooted couple of times and now I have 2.3.4 with 4.08 build no. Didn't lose any app or files, went smooth no problem whatsoever. For those who's been waiting to update, it's still out there. Just keep trying the checkin every now and then or just wait until the notice shows up. Just make sure you can plug in your phone when it starts the download. On the side note, there really isn't a whole lot of changes with gingerbread on this phone.

So I finally managed to get my wife's and my phones updated last night. Below are the steps I used.

First I set the date and time manually to 11/23/11 and the time to 12:23 pm. You can then go to the check for updated screen and see if your download has been queued. You may need to pop in and out a couple of times before you see the download running.

From here you may get a successful download and be done (good luck). If you are like me you will then get hung on the reboot process that installs the update. If so go through the below process to clear the cache partition.
1.Boot into recovery
1a.Press and hold Power, Choose "Restart" option (you may need to power down and restart depending on the OS version)
2a.When screen turns off, press and hold Volume Down
2.When the white HBOOT screen appears, use the volume button to move down to “RECOVERY.”
3.Press the Power button to select “RECOVERY.”
4.When the triangle and exclamation appears, hold the Volume Up and Power button at the same time.
5.Using the volume button, scroll down to “Wipe cache partition” and select it.
6.Select "Reboot system now"
You will then need to reset your clock to the above in order to re-queue the download. If the process errors in any way you will need to start over with clearing out the cache partition. It is a tedious and ridiculous process that I had to do several times for each phone, but I was finally successful in the end.
Good luck to all and hopelly this solves a lot of peoples update issues. I also hope that the process is added to tech supports resolution list as the calls I made while friendly and curtious were pretty fruitless.
