Here is some basic info regarding the new upcoming update. If you have any new information PLEASE update this thread and attach some links for all of us to follow.

  • Android 3.0 Gingerbread will be released in mid- October (around 15 -16th), 2010. First handsets shipping in November/December – for the Holiday Season.
  • Minimum hardware requirements for Android 3.0 devices are: 1GHZ CPU, 512MB or RAM, displays from 3.5” and higher.  (We all, of course, heard that Android handsets with 2GHz CPU’s are coming)
  • New 1280×760 resolution available for the devices with displays of 4” and higher. (Anyone thinking about Android tablets now? )
  • Completely revamped user interface. If you want to get a feeling of what Android 3.0 Gingerbread UX is like, check out the Gallery app on Nexus One. The same overall feel, light animated transitions, etc. Natively, through all the UI.
  • Android’s split into 2 branches becomes official. 3.0 for top of the line/high end devices. Cheap, low-end mass market handsets will keep Android 2.1/2.2

Just a few jabs to get the fire started. Keep it nice here please, and lets help each other be the highest informed forum on the net!                                            GO GINGERBREAD!!!!!

it is the next version of the android operating system...but doesn't appear to be coming any time soon. your phone's operating system is updated from time to time with added features...much like windows 95 to 98 to now...vista, then windows 7.

So, is anyone at Verizon reading this thread to learn about the CRAPTASTIC new update?

1) If I am on Bluetooth with a call, and I get a text message, the following happens (in this order)

  • a) The phone drops the Bluetooth earpiece and goes to speaker phone
  • b) if I press the Bluetooth button (o try and retrieve the call), it hangs up the call!

2) Voice to text does not work while I am messaging.

3) While switching from some applications, I get the White "htc" screen (makes me think it is about to reboot...but it doesn't), then the "processing" screen for at least 10 seconds, then the home screen (or whatever is appropriate).  This is "better"??

The Bluetooth drop, however, is the real killer.  This is a definite BUG!

I am not happy with this upgrade.  When's Rev 2 coming out????

Im not sure about the rev, but Im sure the fine "Non Verizon" staff in here will tell you what they tell everyone...........

Do a Factory Reset.......Sounds like what the bone heads at work tell me from PC Support when they are out of ideas's. Avoid the update or try the alternative's..

Ann, I do not have any issues with the fact that Verizon announced 3 yrs ago that they would hand out Merritt badges to anyone who tries to help customers with technical support. Hey that's fantastic, then you all should apply for jobs as technical support techs. But I ended up here b/c like the masses I had questions that only Verizon should be addressing. I had no idea that I might not get help from the proper individuals. This new OS update is apparently sending phones to the grave. My dig on support was that I kept reading that there was no technical help. You can't have people believing from a "Customer, past customer or good Samaritan" that there's no other way to correct their problem other than do a factory reset. These are problems, Verizon is installing on our phones have issues, apparently pretty big cuz not everyone has received the update. And the ones that have are experiencing lots of major problems. Now, that you've set me straight,  Ill make sure I stand clear of the update and of asking technical questions on this forum. Maybe you guys should focus on the members sending folks to websites to flash their devices. BTW.

Anyone else still waiting for the GB update? My wife got her update two weeks ago and I am still waiting, good or bad, it would be nice to know what's going on.

Still waiting here too....  my wife got it two weeks ago...  Like watching a pot waiting for water to boil...

Maybe the people who knew what the update was are the last to get it??

My boyfriend received his update two days after it was released.  I got tired of calling and waiting on the 15th...and downloaded it off a website I can't remember right now...but it had the same build # and baseband version...

I compared all the info after installing it to my boyfriends phone...everything is exactly the same except the PRI (not PRL) version...

anyways, I have had my phone off the charger as of 1pm this afternoon, and it is now 5ish and my battery is in the YELLOW!

Battery life SUCKS!

I have called and emailed everyone around the 15th of the month.  First I started with Verizon.  I was told the push actually comes from HTC.  I emailed HTC and they told me GOOGLE pushes the update in bits and pieces...

FYI:  minor changes in GB too...Fast boot, darker different icons in the notification bar and POOR battery life!

My issues with "low memory" have gone away after deleting applications and clearing caches. I have not been having problems with IM messages since I don't use IM.  However, I am still suffering from poor battery live. WildMan advocates doing a factory reset to properly initialize the phone for the new OS. I can understand this as it relates to misbehaving applications. My question is would doing a factory reset help with the poor battery life issue I am having? Any feedback would be appreciated!

Hi Patm1996,

Doing the factory reset could help with a memory issue beyond clearing the cache and deleting the applications. If you wish to go that route to do a factory reset, please ensure you have backed up all your data and information as all your data will be deleted off the phone. However, let me give some tips that can help you with your battery life on the HTC Droid Incredible that would not require a factory reset. If you want to try these steps out before doing the factory reset, it may resolve the issue. If you still want to do the factory reset, please use to this link and pull up the device manual and refer to page 201 for these steps.

However, I hope the suggestions provided will help with the battery life issue and help avoid you needing to do a factory reset.

Tips on helping you with the battery life:

1. Dim the screen. The brighter your screen, the more battery power it uses. Go to Settings > Sounds & Display > Brightness to adjust brightness levels.

2. Turn off Bluetooth and Wi-Fi when not in use. The function of having access to Bluetooth or a Wi-FI connections are features that can use power when not needed with conserving the battery when needed.

3. Turn off mobile capabilities in low-coverage areas. Weak signal areas cause your phone to work harder (and use more battery power) to find a signal. If you know you’re in a low-coverage area, turn off your mobile capabilities to save power.

4. Check email and instant messages manually. Your HTC Droid Incredible can be set to “push” notifications as soon as they arrive in the server’s mailbox, or you can check them manually. To increase battery life, turn off push and increase the intervals between when your phone checks for new messages. For maximum battery life, set your phone to check for messages manually.

5. Turn on Airplane Mode when phone is not in use. Turning on Airplane Mode when your phone is not in use will disable Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, and email & instant messaging pushes all at once, dramatically saving battery power. Airplane Mode can be turned on and off by holding down the power button of your phone until the power setting options appear.

6. Download a TasKiller application. Download the TasKiller application and select “Auto Kill When Screen is Off”. This will shut down any apps on your phone while your screen is turned off. To set important apps to remain active even when the screen is off (like alarm clocks or live wallpapers), touch and hold the app in the “Running Apps” screen on TasKiller and select “Ignore”.

So a VZW employee finally posts in a forum about Gingerbread, and doesn't answer the most asked question in the forum?  Why is VZW taking such poor steps to keep their customers informed?

They don't want to keep us informed because they're braking our phones on purpose. My Guess is they put out a broken update to get people to jump to a new phone. They know the incredible is a grate phone and there is no reason to upgrade. i.e. no one realy  need a 4G, 3D, jumbo screen piece of junk that ends my unlimited data package. If you have been watching the boards everyone got tired of waiting the update and here the horror stories of GB that they either jumped to an iphone or some other piece junk that looks cool but no better than what they all ready have, and they felt good about it. I hope they still have there data package or its not worth it.

I Love my Incredible

This worked for me...
Run your battery down to like 5%
Charge uninterupted until full.
Do this 2x
Hope it helps! (:

jmancil1972 - Thanks for the response. I have seen that suggestion. I will give it a try. At the same time I wonder why that process is needed to make the battery status show accurately. Can someone provide a technical explanation?

I have not either, nor have I seen any indication here or other forums that anyone has received it in over a week. Leading to the conclusion that it was (silently) pulled/halted by big red to fix their problems.

Hopefully someone will let us know what's going on soon, but I'm not counting on it.

it needs to go through a full power cycle to calibrate accurate stats. the battery info is the device's best guess and it can be much more accurate if it figures out exactly how long it takes to completely charge and exactly how much use you can get from a full charge. if you canstantly plug it in for 20 minutes here and there, then it will not be very accurate. i believe that it's also recommended to do a full power cycle at least every couple of weeks (let it get down to 5-10% and then completely charge it). i can't give a technical explanation, but i know i have had better performance from batteries (on all of my devices) when i wait until they are very low and completely charge them. also, you should try "bump charging" it if you never have. charge it while it is on until the light goes green. then unplug it and power down. plug it back in. the light will be orange again and it will charge for another 20 minutes (roughly) before it goes green again. i don't know why, but it helps a lot.
