Been pretty quiet on the Gingerbread front for the past week or so...  This phone sure needs the update ASAP to make proper use of ALL its features.

Dear cgold2,

Right, we are all looking to the next iteration of the OS to see what problems it solves and what new goodies it brings.

Are you happy generally with the Droid Charge as it is?  There will always be something new and (supposedly) better out there in the rumor mill, or promised by the providers.  Given that, though, can we be generally happy with what we have at  the moment?

I know I am.  Yes, the Charge has quirks and shortcomings, but all phones at this level do...just visit similar forums for other top-end smartphones.  I got my Charge after trying out the Motorola Droid X2, which I generall loved but which had a glitch-filled music player.  After trading the X2 in a couple of times for new ones, I had to conclude that it was a design or software flaw.

I love the screen on the Charge, the phone dialer is better than the X2's and there are some Samsung extras that I like.  The call quality could be better, the antenna seems weaker than my Motorolas (had a Droid 1 before) and I have some issues with the software Samsung uses for docking the phone to the desk dock and car dock.  But overall, it is a great phone for me.

Hope you feel the same.  If not, I guess you'll have to wait for the next OS.

Your response makes a lot of sense for most phones but I have to agree with the OP on the charge. Front facing camera and 4G connectivity makes it an ideal choice for video conferencing. Skype and Google do not support video conferencing until Gingerbread so in reality for this phone to live up to it's potential it needs gingerbread. Ideally it should have released with it, but since it didn't it needs the update ASAP.

you haven't had a Samsung android device before, have you?  They have the worst update track record in the US.

Dear CanadalsCold,

Understood. I guess the moral of the story (considering PJNC284's post) is to make sure all the gadgets on the phone work when you buy it. I did not check out videoconferencing because I do very little of that. But I do use the phone to listen to music while riding motorcycles, and that's what killed the DX2 for me.
