Gmail display

Is there any way to get gmail to show the number of unread messages on the homescreen?  (like handcent shows the number of unread texts)  Or is there a better way to setup email on another program through IMAP that would show how many unread messages there are on gmail?

There are some applications that do just this (show unread Gmail counts) in the market. I've not yet used any of them, so can't really recommend one over another.

I use Gmail Unread Count and it works great.  You can customize the color of the widget and make it 2d or 3D
