I know I've made a thread like this before but the old one is not looking so good and I don't have the ability to just delete it.
I posted a thread a while back about how to make an extended battery case due to the lack of cases available for the HTC 2150 Extended Battery. Don't get me wrong I wish they made one. I made this out of desperation and it actually didn't turn out that bad so I wanted to share with people that were just as frustrated about not only the lack of accessories for this phone, but a simple phone case. Yes you can get a belt clip style holder but I can't stand those things. I just wanted a normal hardshell case to easily fit in and out of my pocket.
Alright enough of that. Here we go!
Please do not try this if you are unable to use sharp knifes and power tools. Additionally this is obviously an "at your own risk" project. Don't blame me if you get hurt. Stay safe!
Step 1 - Place the case on a cutting board or disposable flat surface, (case exterior down). Use an exact-o-knife to cut out as much of the raised center as possible following the outline that you can still see on my example.
(Note) This picture shows the case exterior if you are confused as to what I am referring to.
Step 2 - Mask the exterior of your case with some painters blue tape to protect the finish of your case. Load it up and don't be bashful on the amount. Try not to tape over the edges where the other part of the case attaches to. You'll need to be able to snap the other piece of the case on later to test you phone's extended battery hight clearance.
Step 3 - Using a Dremel tool, or some sort of sanding bit follow the inside of the case where you trimmed on step 1. Shave out extra material working from the inside of the case. This can be tedious people. I suggest taping around your extended battery door on your phone as well. This will ensure that when you keep testing your phone case you wont scratch up the battery door with sharp plastic from the case you are working on. The name of the game here is patience people. Sand sand sand, and fit test to the phone. Basically you want it to drop right on the phone with total clearance of the extended door bump.
Step 4 - Once satisfied that your case now fits around your phone and attaches to the other part of the case to form a snug fit double and triple check it before removing all the tape. Once the tape is all removed grab some extra fine sand paper and go along the trimming you did to smooth it out. You may need to use some real rough paper first if your trim job was kinda bumpy.
Step 5 - Enjoy the looks. Don't bust on my case I beat them up a little. Thats why I was so desperate for a real extended battery case. I also (not pictured) took an extra screen protector I had and attached it to the exposed HTC battery door cover to protect the finish on that as well considering thats the only thing exposed now on this phone.
You can also do this same principle with a silicone case. I tried that and it works great as well!
Enjoy...
Hopefully we get a real one someday.
