I just got the HTC Incredible last week after having the blackberry tour. I love the phone but I have one minor annoyance. On my blackberry tour I always had all 5 bars, on my Incredible I show none (even when i have service) - 1 bar. Is this just a software issue, and if so when would a fix be sent out?
Thanks

you did what GTO suggested and that usually helps alot, you did a battery pull, but did you do a couple battery pulls back to back, sometimes that works
you could just have a bad phone. i cant remember how many posts were first created when the droid came out where people were having the same problems, causing them to curse the phone, verizon, and motorola.
it happens, its a new product, there are fixes.
get the phone replaced. go to a verizon store, see if their phone offers the same number of bars as yours, if theirs is better, you could have a faulty machine.

Im not to worried about it like i said just a minor annoyance, the phone is great and i love it.. I'll see if it goes away on its own i have only had it since thursday. When I was in the verizon store the problem disappeared so who knows.

Is it just that the meter for signal strength isn't showing very many bars? Or are you actually dropping calls? I have noticed with most HTC devices, the signal meter is calibrated very well. It will show zero bars, but you are able to make and receive calls with no problem. If it is not affecting your call quality, I would say that you have run into this (repeated) issue with HTC handsets.

Just the bar is inaccurate i assume, call quality is fine, no dropped calls.

I was doing a bit more reading on the incredible this weekend and it seems a lot of people are attributing this to a hardware issue, specifically the antenna. Apparently the Incredibles antenna is located in the bottom of the phone, the same as the Nexus One. There were reports of similar signal strength issues on the Nexus One. Also people have commented on the way your hold the phone or the angle you hold it at affecting the signal. If all this is true it seems likely that it is a design flaw and no firmware patch is going to change it. This is sad, but Verizon and HTC will likely keep their mouths shut on the subject since there isn’t much else they can do that this point.
I guess all I can do now is wait for the EVO and hope it doesn’t have the same issues. Its too bad, I really wanted an Incredible :^(

the problem seems to be less now, i was out and about today and had 3/4 bars, never had that b4 since i got the phone, and i show service in my house now... I've had service even though it showed i didnt, so it looks like the signal meter is off. Would be nice if it showed properly (or i could just be wrong and it could really have that bad of reception) but it works and i am happy with that. Its a heck of alot better than my tour.
