HTC Incredible contact default groups usless: how to delete them

The default contacts groups clutter up the whole first page of groups, so I have to scroll down to get to my own groups.  I have tried to delete the default groups.  Ridiculously, it seems impossible.  Anybody found a more useful contacts widget or app?  Or, better yet, anyone figure out how to delete the dud groups?

I use Google contacts online to sort/delete groups. its a little tedious but you only do it once and its done.
