Hi

I am a new to Verizon, I bought a Droid but came in 2 weeks later to upgrade to the x , now I am told  have 2 choices. Give up my current phone and go without a phone, order the x, wait ( not sure how long) for the x to come in.2 Pay full price and they will re imburse me when it arrives (not sure how long). What gives with this. Contract says nothing about a situation like this just that I can up grade to a new phone. Why can't they just order me one ? Apparently on line orders take precedence..

They will usually allow you to keep the phone until the new one comes in. I've read this on other posts. Emailing customer service has worked well for me in the past if you can't get satisfaction over the phone or at the store.

Whoever told you, at the store, that you can "give up your phone and go without" until the Droid X comes in.......is extremely misinformed.

I placed a call to Verizon Customer Service, as I have been researching the Droid X from every angle, and wanted to be prepared when I placed my order.  I asked the specific question of  "If I place my order for an upgrade to a Droid X, can I still use my current phone until it arrives ?"

The response was:   "Of course you can.  Your current phone is still active and can be used until the Droid gets there.  We wouldn't do that to you.  You have to have some sort of phone service until you get the new one, right ?  When you receive the Droid X in the mail, there will be very specific instructions included on how to officially activate the Droid and replace your current phone."

If you are entitled to upgrade your phone on the Verizon website, or in a store, here are the two options you actually have:

1.  Place an order online.  Your current phone can still be used until the new one arrives, and you manually activate it.

2.  You place an order in the store.  Your current phone can still be used until the new one arrives, and you manually activate it yourself, or at the store with assistance.

I placed my order yesterday.....my account has been charged....and I'm still taking calls and text messages on my LG phone.  No worries, my friend.

It sounds like from the original post that the person recently purchased the Droid and now wants to upgrade to the Droid X.  I would think that in order to get a discounted price on the Droid X, you would need to return the original phone prior to purchasing the Droid X.

If you were a Verizon customer prior to purchasing the regular Droid, they can reinstate your former phone until the Driod gets here so you won't be without service.  If you were not a Verizon customer prior to the purchase of your regular Droid, you would have to full price pay up front for the Droid X and get the price adjusted once it comes in and you move from the regular Droid to the Droid X.

I think the issue is if a phone was recently purchased (like it appears here), you cannot get your discounts (new every 2 or any online discounts or store discounts) for the Droid X because you have already taken advantage of them for the regular Droid.

Like was explained, if you purchase the Droid at full price, once it comes in you can take back your regular Droid (as long as it's within 30 days) and get the discounts reapled to the Droid X.
