Hearing your own voice in earpiece problem

Ok I really want this phone but when I went to Verizon to try it out I noticed that when talking on it I hear my own voice pretty loud through the earpiece of the phone (very annoying!) I know a little bit is normal so you don't feel as if you're talking into a block of wood but this is way too much. I thought it was just a bad phone so I went to another Verizon store close by and the same thing there.

Other then this strange call quality issue I absolutely love this phone. Does anyone else notice this when talking on their phones???

If so, have you found a fix for it?

I sure hope so, then I will buy it for sure.

Thanks!

This happened to me on one call during the past two weeks I've had the phone. It was only in the first few seconds when I called someone, and it stopped when I moved to another spot in the room.

Overall, it's been a great device for me. Good luck deciding.

I got my phone on 5/11/11...noticed this problem and it was HORRIBLE!  It was on every single call.  VZW replaced the device for another reason but noticed the new device did not do it at first. I received the replacement early last week, and by the weekend, I noticed this device was now doing it. I can't stand it. The new device is not doing it every time but more than it should be and more than when I got it last week. I was on another forum & others told me they had the same issue.  I contacted VZW support about it and they told me since they noticed there was another complaint in my area about this, he was going to submit a ticket on it to see if they can find a resolution.  Not sure how long that's going to take.  However though, I really like the phone a lot. Waaaay better than my Eris. For the few weeks that I have owned it, I really love it but my Eris was great for a month or so then was garbage after that (well, actually after the first VZW update, then it became junk).  I just hope this phone does not do the same because I'm really liking it.  I plan on contacting HTC about this issue also.

Thanks everyone for your responses. I have looked into this issue and submit a product issue, but it doesn't seem our product team has been able to duplicate this yet. I also am not showing any of my co-workers report this as a known issue in our internal forums. I just recently received a Droid Incredible 2 and have not experienced this issue on my own device. Has anyone other than Letsgofishing received a replacement device and still experiencing this problem? You said you haven't noticed if this is a signal issue, but try to pay more attention to see if this occurs when the signal is low on the device. That way we can try to further pinpoint the cause.

MarquiaF, do you plan on helping me? I sent you an email as requested. Your coworker in tech support is doing nothing.

Hi LetsGoFishing,

I am sorry if you were not contacted back regarding your issue with the Droid Incredible 2 and hearing your own voice (or echoing) in your earpiece.  I can definitely provide you with some troubleshooting steps, as well as some additional information.

If you have not already done so, please download the most recent update for this device. You can do so by viewing the following link:

http://support.vzw.com/system_update/htc_incredible_2.html

Another suggestion would be to lower the volume, while on a call, using the buttons on the side of the device. The earpiece volume can only be changed when on a call, since those buttons adjust the ringer volume when not on a call.

Please post back in this thread with your findings.

Thank you and have a good day!

ChristinaB, I must let you know that lowering the volume was the VERY first thing done; I never have my volume high. Tech support told me over & over it was a network issue.

I'm still somewhat angry with VZW because after talking to tech support several times, I was assigned a tech agent (wish I could post his name on here but it will probably be removed) who lied about helping me. Even though I had also been to a couple of local stores about the echo, as of yesterday, I finally found a supervisor at another local store who went WAY ABOVE AND BEYOND to help me. She was absolutely awesome!!! She stated the tech agent documented my file advising the problem had been resolved yet he never called to inform me and I was still holding a defective phone. She stated not to worry, she will take over the situation & do all she can to fix it. She tested the phone, heard the echo & stated she did not think it was a network issue. The only resolution she could finally come up with was to replace the device again. Actually tech support said the same yet again, he never calledback to setup the exchange. Another issue (minor) came up with the new device later that evening, I went back, and she stayed with me for quite some time to make sure the device was working as should and that I was happy. This is my third DINC2 and I think it's finally working properly. I've been using it all day today and last night & I'm just excited. :smileyvery-happy:

I do appreciate ChristinaB that you were doing a follow up since tech support and MarquiaF did not assist but it's fine now.  Thank you for your time.  (The supervisor I dealt with need to be cloned and put in every location of VZW. She was just that pleasant & professional).

Hi again LetsGoFishing,

Thank you for posting your update. What great news! I am so glad that the store manager renewed your faith in Verizon Wireless and that you are now enjoying your phone and getting the mostof your wireless experience.

Have a great week!

Just curious if anyone else has noticed this problem. Verizon has offered to exchange my phone again or escalate the problem ticket to a higher level to get some type of resolution. I chose the escalation b/c I'm on 2nd DINC2 and still have the problem. Mine happens every call & the longer I'm on the call, the worse it gets.  Took it to a VZW store & the tech noticed the same thing; the echo & gets worse longer on phone. Granted, the 2nd device echo issue is not as bad as the first device but it is there & is annoying.  Hopefully anyone else experiencing this problem report it to VZW so it can be taken care of.  Called HTC who said they have not heard of this issue but the rep did state while talking to me, he said I sounded like an echo on his end. He stated that I also report it to VZW what he heard. Maybe I should do an exchange for my 3rd DINC2 & hopefully the third is a charm!

Thank you all for your responses.

This appears to be a problem that Samsung and Verizon didn't have as a documented issue.

I have reached out to Samsung to make sure we can get it documented so we can determine what the resolution would be regarding the sound quality on the Droid Incredible 2.

In the interim, when you are engaged on a phone call and experience the echo, try to adjust (lower) the volume to see if that makes a difference.

Additionally, make note if you are having the problem using a Bluetooth or wired headset; if so , adjust the volume there as well.

You do mean HTC and not Samsung, right?

Exactly. Did you contact Samsung? Should be HTC. There should be a documented issue because I was given a trouble ticket # by VZW tech support. No one can tell me what the problem is.  And yes, I have adjusted the volume while on the call, no resolution, and I do not have an echo issue when connected to my corded headset; only when I talk directly into the device.  I've been told a few times by VZW its a tower issue. Has nothing to do with that; my friend and I were driving recently & the echo was so bad, I hung up the call & immediately used my friends BB who is also a VZW customer & their phone was absolutely fine. So no, its not network/tower problem.

I'm actually shocked that this doesn't bother most of the people who have this phone? Hundreds of people and only a few complaints?

Either everyone is using Bluetooth headsets or they love hearing their own echoed voice in the phone's earpiece..LOL

LetsGoFishing,

Thank you for that information. When we submit a trouble ticket, it is to test to see if any network issues may be causing this. Unless our network team has done multiple trouble tickets for this issue on the phone, there would not be a documented issue based on one trouble ticket. I checked again and I am not showing this as a reported issue. If anyone that is having this problem can send me a PM with your mobile number and how often this problem occurs. I can look at your account to get the MEID for the phone. I can submit a product issue so our product team can investigate this issue.

I just got this phone today and noticed it right away, it's actually really annoying and adjusting the volume doesn't help at all.

I have this problem too intermittently from my home environment. Is this an issue with signal strength?

I don't know whether it's related to signal strength, but call quality is my only real complaint about this phone. Once in a while I get that echo, and while on a call, I can't hear unless I move the phone around until the speaker is in one exact spot.

Yesterday someone called me while I was driving on the highway, and I had to turn off my A/C and radio and make sure my window was closed just to hear. I was about ready to stroke out after 10 minutes of driving like that in this weather.

Syd  the problems that are showing up with the Dinc. 2  The ear piece problem, the signal strengh issues , an a few other things that seam to be happening with this device.

Do you think its time that  Verizon  pulls the strings an Halts sales or at least does an investigation with HTC on it. An have HTC come out with a Update very soon to fix all the issues in Hand. if there is one

My Take on this:

Looking at the Device as i have.  it looks really sharp But the issues in hand are in my book starting to look very Grim.! An for HTC's sake  i hope they come up with a salution to fix it very soon.

Hiya, DincX110. I did read on a tech blog this week that a minor update is being released for the Inc 2, but it seems aimed at improving a server connection for contacts and emails (which I need, since my emails aren't sending anymore, ugh).

I don't think these problems will warrant any kind of special consideration from Verizon or HTC. Almost every device seems to have some issue or another ... this one just has a lot. Overall, I still like the phone, but I may feel different if I had to run a business while away from home.

I know there are opposing schools of thought on this, but I've had decent call quality with no dropped calls since I updated my PRL.

Good luck to you. I'll let you know if the software update fixes my email problem.
