Help! Battery life suddenly terrible?!

I've never been overly impressed with the DX battery life, but this is
ridiculous. I can normally at least get through the day on a charge, with
general use; but today, my battery went from 80% to 30% in just 2 hours, while
on standby! GPS off, WiFi off, bluetooth off, screen off.
I have had to charge it 3 times today, and I have hardly used it at all!
Sitting there, un-used, with the screen off, it is sucking up the battery as if
I were browsing the internet, sending text messages, making voice calls, and
watching streaming video all at the same time!
When I go to the battery usage, the only thing showing up is "Android OS -
94%, Phone Idle - 2%, Cell Standby - 2%" Nothing else is showing up. I haven't
added any new apps, nor have I changed any settings.
Anyone have a clue as to what is going on?

I made a thread about this same issue. Had it happen once before.

Now, I don't know what's going on with the Moderators marking everything as Solved, but I didn't mark that particular post.

Possible defective battery. If you have a friend willing to let you try his battery, that would be a way to test without having to spend any money.
Obviously this is a guess on my part but it's a place to start.
Good luck,

If it's that reproduceable, you should boot ito SAFE MODE and just see if it loses the charge just as fast ... if it does NOT, you have a rogue APP eating the battery ... Also, live Widgets that frequently auto-update can drain your battery .. e.g., Facebook, email, Twitter, News, etc... as well as live Wallpapers.

If you had a recent upgrade you may have to uninstall some of your Apps to resolve the battery issue. After upgrading to 2.3.3 Words With Friends and Facebook and Task Killer had to be uninstalled before my battery returned to normal. Now, Markets is broken and I can no longer download anything. so good luck to you. It looks like Google has screwed up with this upgrade and they've known about it for days. Where is the fix ???? I'm not happy and will be visiting my Verizon store today. I'm sure there will be a line a mile long.

No new apps, no upgrades (other than the recent one to address keyboard issues).
Well, after 2 days of huge battery drain, always listed as just "Android OS-90+%", and after trying everthing I could think of; clearing cache several times, force closing everything multiple times, AVG scan, deleting and reinstalling accounts, etc., I finally gave up and did a factory reset.
Thanks, Moto/Verizon, for forcing me to spend a full day reinstalling and reconfiguring my phone! Now the battery drain is back to normal (just bad, not horrible!).

I had the EXACT same problem. I thought I needed a new battery. The issue started sudenly on Thursday night when the battery that normally lasts me a full day with full use went from 60% to 0 overnight. The next day I charged it to 100% and by the next morning....same thing, down to 20%. After three days with the issue I called Verizon. The tech had me dial *228 to update my phone. I was skeptical but it worked. Last night when I went to sleep the phone was at 60% and it was still at 60% this morning.
As the rep explained it, I had not done the *228 update in several months and this was causing the phone to work harder to find a signal and this was draining the battery.

I just dialed #228 and I got a message that my call could not be completed as dialed.

Hmmm... I'm not sure if I just had a typo or if I dialed wrong. Trying again...

It's not googles fault - you wanna blame someone, blame Moto and VZW - they modify the OS for Blur and for use with their network setup. Google merely makes the baseline OS, but phone makers and carriers can and usually will modify the heck out of it to meet their needs/desires
and to the OP, if you have ATK on your phone, take it off.....there is no use for that app and my battery life improved drastically after I removed it. While I still think that the majority of problems with the Droid X is because of what Moto and VZW have done within the GB update, in this case I think (atleast from my own experience) the problem is actually with a specific app draining the battery for whatever reasons.
