Home screen won't rotate to landscape

I thought that my home screen would rotate into landscape mode when I first got the phone, but it will no longer do so. This happens on the home screen and in the app drawer. When my phone is in the desktop cradle it rotates just fine. When I am in an app such as messaging or the browser it rotates also with no problem.
Auto rotation is checked in settings - display.
Anyone know why this might be happening or how to fix it? I sometimes prefer to hold my phone in landscape mode depending on how I am using it.

JoeNe,
This appears to be an artifact of the OS. I tried to duplicate the situation, and was easily able to. Also, the dialer screen does not rotate.
I use a desk dock for the phone, and when docked the Apps screen, the dialer screen and the home screens all rotate (the phone is docked in an orientation with its left side down). So I think this is part of the design of the OS.
Perhaps not to your liking, but I don't think this is considered a malfunction.

I could have sworn it did when I first got the phone. I wonder if a widget or shortcut is causing it to not rotate. I am hoping someone who has figured it out will chime in here before I start removing my widgets and shortcuts.

Dear JoeNe,
Check your display settings. With the phone on one of your home screens, press the Menu button (left-hand button) and then delect Display settings and check Auto-rotate screen. If already checked, you may have a problem with the internal gyros on your device.
If I solved your problem, don't forget to indicate the problem as solved so that others can also find this solution. And give me a kudo! Thanks.

My settings are correct and the screen rotates properly in other apps, just not the home screen and app drawer.

I'm leaning towards thinking you are right on. I saw a similar post on another forum with the same responses. I may have been dreaming when I thought it would rotate to landscape without being in the desktop cradle. I really like the layout of the home screen when in the cradle.
I tried Go Launcher EX, but didn't like losing my notifications unless installing another app.
Thanks!

Not sure you were dreaming... I bought 2 Droid 3s and one of them rotates on the home screen and the other does not.

I went back to using Go Launcher for several reasons. One of the side benefits is that the home screen does rotate.
