Horrible Battery Since Latest Update

Ever since the last Android update my phone's battery life has been UNBEARABLE!!!!! Previously I was able to get a FULL day of work in and STILL be able to use it after work for a while before having to charge it... Now I STRUGGLE to get 4-6 hours out of it with MINIMAL usage..... My minimal I am talking 1 or 2 3 to 4 minute conversations and maybe a dozen text messages.... I have turned ALL auto updates off, signed out of all accounts, factory reset TWICE, used the phone with ONLY stock apps installed for a few days and all with no changes.... I know that after a FDR it will take a couple days for things to settle in but nothing has helped.... I am in the service industry and NEED my phone to last at a minimum of 8 hours... When I need to make a call or look something up it is IMPERATIVE that I am able to do so.... This is unacceptable for the battery to drain so fast.... I was in the shop today working with data OFF and on WIFI only and lost 80% of battery in just 6 hours.

I have downloaded battery monitoring apps and they do not show anything to cause concern. The stock battery app also shows nothing out of the ordinary.. The phone is sleeping when it is "idle" and nothing seems to be trying to run or access the web when it shouldn't....

I need a phone that can last and if this can't be fixed I will be forced to look elsewhere for a device that will. I live in a larger city with good coverage and service so I know that signal strength isn't an issue. I have read across the web the last few days and see there are many complaints just like mine. If an update or solution can't be found in the coming days I will be forced to look elsewhere for a device that can meet my needs again... The Ultra was a GREAT phone when I first got it a few months back but now is almost unusable.... PLEASE HELP!!! Thank You!

Miller6386,

I definitely understand where you're coming from, I know how important it is to have a long lasting battery, and I apologize you've had problems with it recently. I appreciate you trying those steps, did you make sure "Automatic Restore" was disabled prior to completing the factory resets? Also, try this link to help extend the battery life http://vz.to/1hmHqc6

I'm having the same problems.  This is maddening.  Before the last update I could easily go a couple days now it's hours.  In addition the notification indicator almost never indicates that the phone is charging.  Although, if I go into settings it indicates that the phone is charging (and it is).  Luckily, I don't have any time left on my contract so if this isn't resolved soon I think it will be time to switch carriers.

Please explain to me how a MANUFACTURER produced update is caused by the CARRIER? Oh and why do all the other carriers have the same issue too! No carrier is exempt so it looks like you need to A. Get a basic phone or B. Go without a cell phone

Any tips on getting more out of the battery? I usually can get through from 8-4 pm but by then, the % is usually down to under 50. Yesterday was the WORST!!! I didn't use my phone all day... A couple quick texts...no apps used....and from 7:30-3:00 it was down to 17%. What the heck? I plugged in to charge in my car...got up to 22%. I went to the ER about 4:00 with 22% battery and with limited texts...by 8:00 it WAS dead! No way to contact anyone to let them know how I was doing!!! Can I uninstall any of the apps that came on the phone that I NEVER use????

If this just started happening first I would power off and back on, if I have a misbehaving/rogue app that will usually take care of it.  If it continues to be a problem and just started recently then look at recently updated apps in My Apps in Play store and see what has been updated recently.   Look under Settings->Battery and see if anything looks unusual there, some application that is using too much battery or click on the graph and look at wakelock time and see if it appears to be stuck in a wakelock continuously due to some misbehaving application. A couple of other things to try, disable Google Location Reporting and History Reporting, on my previous phone one of those was consuming my battery very quickly.  Even when you have these enabled make sure you set location to use power saving mode.  One more thing to try, if you have Facebook and Facebook Messenger installed, try removing them for a few days and see if that helps.  I have seen those causing problems again lately and I have personally run into issues with versions of them with previous phones as well.

Thank you for your help! I will try uninstalling FB and messenger for a few days. Do u know if there is a way to uninstall some of the apps that come on the phone? They take up so much space and I NEVER use most of them.

If you can't uninstall them then you can try to turn them off, go to Settings -> Applications -> Application Manager (depending on Android version menus may be different).

Swipe from right to left until you get to All at the top from this list you can either Uninstall or Turn Off applications.  If you don't get the option to Turn Off an application then it is required to be running.  Don't be alarmed when you turn off an application when it uninstalls updates, it does that then turns off the application until such time you turn it back on. If you swipe one more time you will get to the turned off applications.

Check your cell standby time (time without signal) and percentage.  Tap on the Battery info in settings and maybe that heading is listed.  Screens and signal searches kill battery life as well.
