I think your best answer is to go to a Verizon owned store and get the phone updated by Verizon because you will get both Gingerbread 2.3.6 and the even newer FP1 update.
I say this because we bought a second Charge phone which had Froyo EE4 on it and at the Verizon owned store it was updated to Gingerbread 2.3.6 with FP1. After this update the phone looked like as shown in the attached photo.
It did the entire update of both 2.3.6 and FP1 in one 8-10 minute update session at the store. BTW, do make sure your battery is FULLY charged to 100% so there are NO problems of a low-power shutdown.
Please let me know how it goes...okay???

I sent direct message to Verizon, and they told me to contact Samsung to get updates pushed to my phone.
I called them but they told me it's Verizon that should do it.
Just got back from 2 Verizon stores and came back without any updates because they said they don't/can't do it.
Called Verizon a few minutes ago, and they are going to send me a replacement phone.
Took them long enough to come to that solution.
Btw, I do not have warrant by Verizon, but I do have 1 year warrant from manufacturer that has not been expired, yet.
Will I be charged for the replacement?

no...you shouldn't be charged. just be SURE to follow the instructions on returning your old device or they will charge you the full price of the phone.

Choungro,
This is easy to do so let's give it one more try.
Touch settings>accounts and sync and then put a check mark for BOTH Background Data and Auto sync.
Then wait about 20-30 minutes and touch settings> about phone and touch system updates. If there is no update try this again in another 30 minutes. You can try this as often as you like.
BTW, was that an official Verizon store that you visited?

PS, If you get the update before your new phone arrives you may want to keep your current phone, that is, if all the other features are working properly. You never know regarding a new/used phone. Just a thought.

I have the Background Data and Auto sync checked since I put my phone in factory reset/wipe 2 days ago to see if reset helps.
Well, I guess I will try to do checking and unchecking of the boxes often until it arrives.
Thanks for your help. I appriciate it.
I will post whether I got the update or not when I get the new device.

sometimes a simply battery pull does the trick. otherwise, I would continue being persistent with VZW (especially calling them up). other than that, your only other option would be to get a new phone
