I noticed this issue on the phone the first night I got it and have been trying to figure out what it is.

I actually have FB messages from 2008 on here which is just ridiculous.

Now I went in and created the folder and now have the folder showing and this does hide the messages however this also hides your entire contact list which will not work for me.  If you want to see your contacts then the messages will pop back up again.

I got too many contacts to attempt to delete them all and re enter them.

I dont understand why it wont allow you to delete the messages after they have been deleted from text and FB and wherever else they were originally sent from.

I hope this gets resolved fast.

Nothing new that I am aware of.  Other than the workarounds already posted, one other thing you can do is a factory reset.  Definitely a royal pain but it will wipe out everything if you have a ton of history you want to get off of your phone.  Just make sure you synch the backup assistant to reload all of your phone contacts - but it doesn't save downloads or social network contacts.

Agree with all that this is a major flaw that would seem to be easy for Verizon to fix.  Hope they patch it soon.

I don't have anything new I don't think, but I've noticed on my "X" when checking the contact history, they seam to be automatically deleted after there are 10 events listed. Now each event, (like a text history for example) may have 10 or 15 text messages associated with it, but after more emails, text messages or phone calls for that contact are put in the history, the older ones are automatically deleted.

Just checked my sons and my daughters contact history on my phone, and my sons has 10 events listed dating back to August 7th.  My daughter contact history also has 10 events listed dating back to July 31st.  Just checked my wifes.... 10 events listed going back to August 6th.

I agree with everyon on here...the contact history is a great pain in the **bleep**.  A violation of privacy, if you will.  Once i delete a text message, i want it out!!! not to be found on another screen.  I looked in the manual and it states there "this screen cannot be deleted"  BAD, BAD, BAD....the only way (other than the fake folder idea) is to delete the contact, then the history will erase, and then add back on...real pain.  but at least i know that not just anyone can see MY private conversations...if anyone has a better solution...please do tell...

Well they are really fools. What a defect in privacy. You can do a master reset on your phone. Being that you have google as a backup with contacts. You would be starting your phone over as new.

Supposebly the froyo update fixes this. Also you can remove the contact and re add, this deletes history. I emailed motorola and they said there was nothing they can do. I had to buy an app called "super private conversation" and pull my contacts into the app, it erased the history :smileyhappy: Also when I get a text it pulls them fro the phone into the app. It sucks that I had to pay 10 dllrs but it was well worth it. I rather pay that than have the jellous gf get mad because I text other friends lol

That's great but I didn't think the 2.2 update was available for the Droid X yet?  Any idea when it will be?
