How many phones to get one that works?

OK, I just drove 100 miles today to return my first Droid to "best" buy (I know, major mistake here...) because of charging problems. I get my "replacement" phone home, and notice everything has been opened, and the camera has a really bad squeaking noise when it tries to focus. I know this thing was returned for some reason, probably the poor focusing of the camera and/or the noise that it makes when trying to take a picture. Also, the low-light quality is *really* bad. My first phone that would not charge took fine pictures, and focused with only a little motor noise as would be expected with an auto-focus camera. This doesn't even take into account the scratches on "chrome" surrounding the lense...  This is 2 phones in 2 days. Some customer returned this phone, after who knows how much abuse, and some lanky making a little over minimum wage at the "geek" squad, probably some of the worst trained, most incompetent "technicians" looked over the phone and couldn't get it to do anything abnormal during their 5 minute check and wipe of the phone, they even forgot to wipe the SD card, as there was music on it. What, they figured that maybe the next person who got it might not find the same hardware problems with the phone as the first (who knows, maybe 2nd and 3rd) "owners" of the phone? I'm paying for a ***new*** phone, and I want one that hasn't been messed with or abused by someone else. Verizon should really re-consider allowing these [edit] to resell their services. Seriously. I guess I'm just going to have to spend another half a day driving 100 miles tomorrow, on a weekend with insane shoppers milling around just to return my 2nd phone to these incompetents? I'm more than a little upset as all "heck". Yes, I'm peeved at Verizon for allowing these [edit] to carry their products and re-cycle their hardware after some pimple-faced kit polishes off the finger prints and half-hmm  re-packages their hardware. No wonder there are so many people reporting problems with the Droid, it's probably because the defective units are just being put back on the top of the pile in the "don't" buy drawers, and dummies (me included) are going there to pick up someone else's problem.

Followup:  I called VZW's tech support line and the helpful person at the other end of the line arranged to have a new phone shiped out to me on Monday.  Since the phone is usable, and I don't have to use my gas and half my day tomorrow, nor do I have to keep my temper dealing with the sales-droid at iDon't Buy, I'm happy as can be.  No wonder Verizon get's top marks in customer satisfaction.

I can tell you from experience that a certain other provider would not replace a phone during the 30 day trial period, without returning it to the particular store it was purchased from.  If it wasn't purchased online, their customer support won't send out a new phone to replace a defective one.  I won't mentioin who this other provider is, let's just say their logo color, mixed with Verizon's bright red, would make orange  :smileyhappy:
