How to force send of emails stuck in outbox?

My wife's email is on optonline.net. So, I set up an email account on her Droid 2 Global to sync with her email. She was able to receive messages but not send - all attempts at sending were staying in the outbox.
I realized I set up the wrong SMTP port number, so I fixed it and tried sending a test message. The test worked fine. However, there are a bunch of messages still stuck in the outbox and I cannot find anything that will let me re-attempt to send those messages. I've tried power cycling, battery pull, etc.
I would find it hard to believe that my only option is to delete those messages. We're talking about basically email functionality here, aren't we?
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
