Hi i am new to the community but not to Android. I am currently using a HTC Thunderbolt but i have an old Incredible that i would like to get the Gingerbread update on. Will i be able to get the Over the air update since it is not activated anymore? I have not recieved it yet. If i cannot get the over the air update is there a simple way to manually update the incredible to Gingerbread?

Not sure how that would work but if its possible you could try connecting by wifi and see if you search for updates.  If that doesnt work I am sure that you should find other methods to get it installed but the methods wont be located on this forum...

Another thing you could do is simply activate the device through MyVerizon and download the update and then reactivate the other device, if you got one...

Yeah I dont want to have to root the phone or anything i just want the Verizon version of the update OTA. I have it on Wifi right now and am waiting to see if i get the update. If this doesnt work i suppose i will try reactivating the device to see if i get the OTA update then i will deactivate it and reactivate my Thunderbolt. Will verizon charge me for the reactivation? I would think not, but just making sure.

Why wait, just go to Settings / Software Update / Check Now  and you can switch devices at any time at no charge, you can activate and deactivate any devices you own but remeber you could have issues activation 4G devices when you swith to non-4G and back..

Yeah, not sure why that "check for updates" is even there.  You get it when they send it to you and not before.  And it's random on who gets it when.  And right now you don't want it, until they fix all the bugs in it.

Thanks to all the community members for your input.

Hello Awhoward, adding to what Wildman stated, you would need to have the HTC Incredible device activated in order to have access to the update. This is because this update is available on our network and is the recommended method for obtaining a software update. Also, updates are pushed out to the phone when the become available. You can log into My Verizon under the account owner and do the equipment change to have the HTC Incredible device on the line that has the HTC Thunderbolt on it. Afterwards, please use this link to the instructions on how to complete the software update. If you want, you can change back over to the HTC Thunderbolt and activate the SIM Card. I hope this helps.

This seems like a lot if trouble, who knows how long I would have to keep the incredible activated and waiting on the update. Maybe i'll try this in the next few weeks or just take the phone to a store and see if they can push the update onto the phone for me. Thanks everyone for there help !

Even if u go to the store it will have to be active. Do u have more then 1 line? Once u take the thunderbolt isent it true after so long u have to get a new card.
