How to move curser without touching

I am a new user to this phone and I have a questions.

Let's say I type in something like this:

animalfarm

and I want to add a space in between animal and farm.  I use my finger to try to get the curser before the 'f' but let's say the curser goes after the 'm'.  I can never seem to get the curser where I want it without a bunch of trys.

How do I move the curser a couple spaces over to where I want without using my finger again?  I'm looking for maybe an arrow on the keyboard but the only one I fine is pointing to the left and it erases text.  My old phone was a Palm Centro and I could use the center kind of joystick area to move around.

Have you ever tried the optical joystick that is on the HTC Incredible?

I feel dumb...that worked.  I didn't know that was a joystick, I thought it was just where you spoke into.

just so you know, you can also navigate to different home screens with it. it actually has many more uses than most of us realize. i usually swipe it when i'm using a new app or doing something new on my device just to see if it possibly does something that i didn't realize. it's very similar to a mouse.

Yeah, I accidentally found the other home screens.  There have been a few places where it was really not obvious that you could swipe and get more stuff.  So I also am swiping everywhere to see what happens.

Like, I accidentally found out that you can zoom in and out of a webpage by swiping across the screen.

This phone is really cool.
