How to restart the screen timeout.

I'm holding the phone, playing words with friends, and trying to figure out what to play. Suddenly the screen dims. I take this as a warning that the screen is about to lock. This seems to be a normal function of the phone and a good one. No matter what you are doing the screen dims just prior to the screen locking.
I can touch the screen and the screen lockout timer is reset. But sometimes there is no blank area on the screen to touch, so when I touch the screen I launch a program, delete a podcast, or resign from a game 254 to 96, I was winning and not even cheating.
Is there something that will reset the screen lockout timer that won't inadvertently do something else.

Yes, this works on mine. At the top of the screen touch the top bar that you would touch to bring down the notification screen and lift you finger off immediately if not sooner because you do not want to get the notification scren. That resets the timeout on mine.
OTOH, some APPs remove that bar when they run so I hope the APP you are using does not do that.
Also, pressing the volume UP button will do it too.
