There doesn't seem to be a way to remove pre-installed apps. I do not want that crap on MY phone cluttering up the interface and using memory. Many of them run in the background and suck battery power. How do I get rid of things like Skype, Blockbuster, etc.

The short answer is that you can't remove those apps.
The long answer requires you to modify your phone in ways that we can't discuss in this forum.

Well isn't that special, and exceedingly annoying. Is there a forum where I can learn how to do the more extensive modifications you allude to?

I apologize for not seeing your question sooner. Search for the XDA forums (I think that links to it are prohibited, as well). Once there, search for your device.
Please note, there is risk of damaging your phone by following some of their suggestions. However, most people are fine if they follow the instructions carefully.
