I want to love my Droid ..... but.....

I so want to love my "new" Droid.  I recently purchased it from a third party and have been trying to use it now for about a week.  When it works, I'm in love with it.  When it doesn't, I want to throw it against something really, really HARD!

I suppose frustration is my keyword here.  It will randomly freeze up.  This occurs on a daily basis.  I  have spent hours on the internet looking up possible solutions.  I have tried them all.  Taking out the battery, putting it back in.  Taking it out and leaving it out for 30 minutes, charging it again, putting it in airplane mode, taking it out of airplane mode.  Many of these suggestions have allowed the phone to work again...but only temporarily.  I think the best method of getting it to unfreeze has been the recharging and in and outs of the battery, but I certainly can't do this constantly.  If I'm out of the house and it freezes, I have no choice but to wait till I get home and recharge it, which sometimes works.

I don't know what to do.  I volunteer for a hotline, and not having a working cell is just not acceptable.  Since this is a third party phone, what would happen if I took it in to Verizon?  Would they help me?

Please give me some advice....  as I state, I LOVE the Droid.....maybe just not necessarily mine!

Thanks so much!!!!

Was it bought new? If so, what does this 3rd party say about getting a replacement or refund?

no, no, no.....  third party used.  Replacement is not an option.  I'm looking for some advice as to WHY the freezing is occurring....  Not how to get a new phone....    From all I'm reading, new or used doesn't seem to matter.  There appear to be MANY here with new phones having the same problem.....  Does anyone one know why?  I just checked out the Motorola site....  they have suggested running it in SAFE MODE for a few days and seeing if the freezing still occurs.    If it doesn't, they say it is an app causing the problem.     I don't think so since I have no apps installed other than those that come with the phone.  When I got the phone, I did a complete reset to factory settings......

Been using the phone with no problems for the past day.....after setting in SAFE MODE as suggested by an online "tip".  That would mean, I guess, that  the problem should be with an installed app.  Problem is, there are no apps installed except the pre-installed ones that came on the phone...(I reset to factory settings when I got the phone).  So I am frustrated.  Gonna take off the SAFE MODE today, and see what happens.  I'm surprised you haven't heard of the "Freezing"....it's all over the web as a DROID problem.

These days phones are not build to last more that 2 years.  Your problem is your have an old, used phone that needs to be replaced.  This pretty much happens with any device that has an out of date processor.

excuse you jezza....

I do not agree with you at all.

There are most definitely built to last year per the warrantly. If taken care of properly easily 2yrs years but 2yrs isnt here yet is it.

The first verizon droid came out NOV 09.

Out dated CPU, lol!!!! what a scape goat.

Take care of your device like you would your car or house.

{please keep your posts courteous - Thanks!}

Wish I could help you but my son and I are as flustered as you,

We get the freezing and have taken it in 3 times, only to get the same response, "take the battery out", well we are doing that daily and it still happens (this phone was bought new less than a year ago)

We were told the apps could be affecting it although they ran a test and did not believe it was a problem, so then they cleansed it and started over, same freezing,

Group emails freeze the screen, some times emails will go to the wrong person, it will show up as going one place and someone totally random in the contact list will get it, (no they are not even close to each other in the contact list)

We have been back to the local stores more times than I can count and now are told there is nothing we can do but complain to verizon directly since the phone is one year old, they will not give any discount on a trade in or trade up, so I believe some of these phones have "issues" that they do not have a clue why they happen,

good luck

PS: My son does love the phone when it works but is ready to use it for batting practice when it doesn't

Hard reset had some useful, but not complete/full, improvement for me. You may want to try it. People call it a factory default reset. Search in this forum for "factory reset" and you'll find instructions on how to do it. You'll need to backup app data first. Set aside an hour in order to get everything back loaded and settings dialed in the way you liked them.

Good luck.

(PS - see my post today "System Updates", as it is bound to have some discussion relevant to your situation.
