I did the 2.2 update today and my phone has frozen up on me several time, I have had to perform a master reset. Phone froze while trying to activate the phone again took almost an hour to get the phone fully active, in a matter of 20 minutes my phone went from having 3/4 battery life to dead.

You're wrong. I live in Los Angeles, and called 3 of the largest corporate stores in my area and NONE have the software. One store told me they used to have the machines but they were removed awhile ago.

DodgerCats you are correct, I went to the corporate store where I purchased the phone and they could not fix mine. My refurb. should be at the house when I get home from work then I'm going to root it. Verzion can....well you know if I type it, it will be bleeped out!!! :smileyhappy:

I went to a Corporate store on 9/8.  They had no idea on how to fix the problem, other than doing a hard reset.  One of the Techs also had a Motorola Droid and said that is what she did to fix the problem.  At present, since the hard reset, only thing I'm aware of not working the the Microsoft Exchange connection.

MeMa8080. Exchange is a known issue, Especally with exchange 03 and 2010 with FRG22D. Moto has promised another OTA within the next moth to resolve these issues.

Yes I too am having the Exchange issue and work tells me to call Verizon but they don't have a fix either. LOL I hope this month goes by quickly I need my corporate email.

Lesson learned read the forums first in the future before upgrading software. :smileyhappy:

I updated my Droid a couple of hours ago. Since then its not saving any of my settings. My email notification is some **bleep** song on my phone that keeps playing (which Ive never assigned to my email), when I try to change the notification sound it wont save my selection. I tried to delete an application which somehow got on my phone and I drag it to the trashcan but when I open up my applications it reappears there. This is frusturating. Is there any way to undelete the **bleep** new upgrade? ....

I wouldn't say it has destroyed my phone, but it's definitely made it even worse than it was before. People still can't hear me, I've hung up on 4 different people accidentally today alone, my browser has frozen on a white screen 3 times in the past two hours, my battery seems to be two hours shorter than it was before since I had to charge it around 6 o'clock today & I don't normally have to charge it untill 8, my gallery takes FOREVER to load, & my gmail no longer notifies me of new email, nor does Facebook. I love my DROID, but I cannot wait for an upgrade.

I downloaded the update file last week as I really need the Bluetooth voice dialing. Installed it on my and the wife's Droids -- it took all of about 20 minutes including the download. We have had absolutely NO problems. No hangs, freezes, blips, "M" screens, nada. Battery life is fine, the phone seems much faster, the 5 scerrens are great as I can put related apps where I need them--- etc.  Perhaps OTA is not the best way to get updates after all.

OK - need to update on my "M Screen of Death" - went to the store last night - a little over 30 minutes - they ran an update and now 2.2 is running smoothly on my Droid.

Couple of things - get an app backup and save them - you will prob have your memory wiped.

Make sure your batteries are charged - you will need it.

Somehow - android 2.2 recognized my backed up apps automatically - i don't know how.

So - things are good - loving 2.2 and I am happy.  Sorry that I had to waste the time going to the store - but they knew what the fix was, implemented it and it worked.

Bring on Flash.

My update arrived yesterday.   I ended up with the M screen of death.   Customer support had me reset the phone to factory settings thereby wiping out all my downloaded apps.    Still frozen.  She then called the local verizon store,  They told her they could flash it and fix it.   Went in and it took 30 minutes.    Phone is now working great with the update.   Still reloading all my apps but at least I have the phone back.

It is difficult to understand why some people have so many problems. It seems that in some way the errors must be caused by certain applications. It might be an interesting study to have those with problems list all the applications on their phones and compare the lists.

My update had no problems and my phone continues to work flawlessly and with increased speed and efficiency.

My thoughts exactly, especially since most of the issues being reported are so eerily similar.

I'm wondering for example how many people replaced the stock browser with say Dolphin or Opera...

Got the OTA upgrade prompt last evening & did it.  The "arrow out of box" screen progress indicator completed ok but when the phone tried to reboot it hung at the "M" Moto logo screen.  I let it sit that way overnight thinking it maybe just needed a lot of time.  No go.  I've tried the "unplug and remove battery" routine but it always hangs at the "M" screen.  Sheesh!

Did not destroy phone, but I certainly thought it did for a while.  Took two shutdowns/battery removal, waiting several minutes before restarting the second time, then and now seems OK.  Am disappointed by the small number of apps that can be moved to SD card, would like to do all, but maybe in time.  Also, don't like having Twitter forced down my throat without any opportunity to get rid of it, since I'm using Twidroid.  Future releases should also change default setting for home screen dropping out of memory on the use of large apps, since it takes up to 15 seconds to reload.

The 15th of August is when the problems all started.

I downloaded (or should I say the Update was pushed to me) on Sunday the 15th, and then my phone has not worked the same since. Low battery life all the time, continuously locks up. I have found that if you leave it alone for a while and make sure that the battery is fully charged that it will work for you. But do not shut it down and restart or the problems start all over.

I went into a Verison store and of course they say sorry this is a Motorola problem, and you will have to wait until the next update. Bad business! You want me to wait for something that your company pushed to me and now my phone does not work!

I also ask well can they just push the 2.1 version, back to my phone and then I will wait until I want the update (of course when all bugs are fixed), and of course they said no we cannot do that.

Next step asking Motorola for help? I am sure they will probably say the same thing.

This is very bad service! I am on the Verison network and my phone does not work. Verison should help fix the problem!

I have also suffered the update crash and went to the store where they could not recover the phone and now I have to wait for a replacement since they don't even carry the model any longer..... They wanted me to wait until next Tuesday and then under duress agreed to send one overnight at my expense!! They wreck my phone and now I have no means of calling anyone, and I have to pay for delivery!!! What a pile, and I have not even installed apps, it's a vanilla droid... not happy about this and certainly not happy about no phone!!!

They're making you pay for delivery?  wow.  I would've told them to shove the phone.  We had a mifi replaced a few weeks ago nd we got 2 day delivery for free.

Update: Went to the Verizon store again to see if it was the battery (which wouldn’t hold a charge past 5%) or the replacement handset itself. The customer service girl who was helping me (who I will refer to as CS-1) was very nice and agreed to put a new battery in to see if it would make a difference, and we’d let it charge in the store for 30 minutes. Her coworker (who I will refer to as CS-2) then butted into our conversation and told me it was probably the aquarium live wallpaper I was running, and that was a drain. I told him this is exactly what I had on my original which was running 2.1, and that my wallpaper barely affected by battery life. He then asked when I bought my phone so I told him, and that I needed a new battery after only owning the phone for 4 months! CS-2 said “I have the original Droid and the Droid X, and I change out the battery every 4 months”. I told him that was awfully expensive to be changing the battery that often, and he then proceeded to tell me that a battery can only be charged so many times, etc. He then asked where I bought the phone, and I told him Best Buy. CS-2 then proceeded to tell me that since I did not buy the phone at the corporate store, that if the battery is the problem that I would have to go back to Best Buy and take up the issue with them or that I can purchase a new battery. He asked why I did not buy it from the Verizon store, and I told him that I had purchased previous phones from the Verizon store before, but there was an $80 difference between Best Buy and the Verizon stores. I also told him I called Customer Service at Verizon to see if they could price match, and they could not. CS-2 then told me “Well that’s why you don’t buy from Best Buy, what do you think you’re paying for when you’re paying more here? You’re paying for the warranty.”  CS-2 then told me that had I purchased the phone from the Verizon store, my battery would be covered if it were the issue. It was very obvious he was trying to make me feel guilty for not buying the phone there. I then argued with CS-2 that my phone and battery were just fine on my original phone before the update, so therefore how could it be the battery? Meanwhile, CS-1 noticed it was getting heated, and she told me quietly “It’s the update that’s causing problems”. After charging the phone for 1/2 an hour with the brand new battery, CS-1 checked the phone and the same thing happened- the phone would not hold a charge more than 5%. I told her that I called Verizon Tech Support that morning regarding the problem, and that they were sending another replacement that was being overnighted. She also told me to not update to 2.2 and leave it on 2.1 for now until the problems are fixed.

It’s bad enough being without a phone for 5 days, it’s bad enough I will now have gone through 2 replacement phones, but the last thing a person needs is for a bad customer service rep like CS-2 to blame the customer in some way or make them feel worse. When CS-2 was arguing with me, I almost told him that I have had the original 1st generation iPod Touch since the first week of October 2007 when it first came out and that I had charged that thing multiple times and use it all the time and that the internal battery to this day is STILL going strong. CS-2’s theory on needing a new battery was completely **bleep** and unprofessional, and as someone who works for and represents Verizon I really feel sorry for any person he is helping because he obviously knows nothing about the technology in general and is giving the wrong information, possibly to make a sale or just to make a customer feel bad.

For any of you that are experiencing problems with the Droid, please do not let any of the customer service reps in the store **bleep** you, especially into buying something you obviously don’t need or make it sound as if the problem is a rarity or if the the problem is your fault in some way. Even CS-1 was aware of how widespread the problem is, so if your customer service rep isn’t helping you to your satisfaction or if they sound like they are **bleep**’ing you, have someone else help you. In addition, report this person to Verizon for their lack of knowledge and customer service skills.
