Incoming AOL emails on droid incredible

Beginning one week ago, I have been unable to receive any incoming aol emails to my droid incredible.

I can send emails with no problem, but no incoming emails appear. Sometimes I get a "login failed" or a "network error" message, sometimes I do not. My husband has the same phone and also uses aol on his phone. He has not encountered this problem, he can still receive aol emails to his phone. I have deleted the account from my phone and reinstall it several times. My account settings are the same as the settings that my husband uses on his phone.

I have had the phone since early October and this is the first time that I have had any type of problem. Email has been working great up to this point.

I also have a gmail account set-up on my phone and I have no problems with gmail.

Any ideas? Thanks!

I would try deleting the email account and reinstall it. I had to do that with one of my accounts a few weeks ago. I did the auto setup and all was good.

We recently started getting the same problem...manual and auto setup after deleting the account was to no avail.  I can get to the account on the Droid X, but not the incredible.  We either get login failure or network error...quite frustrating.

Thanks,

Colin and Naomi

The best thing to do will be to go into the account menu and delete the account to make sure we set it up with the correct server information. The steps to delete the account are listed below:

  • Menu
  • My Accounts
  • Menu
  • Remove Account
  • Choose the AOL Account

Once you have done this we can re-add the account with the manual setup. The steps to do this are below:

  1. Locate and Select the Mail icon from your Applications Menu. You will see a place to enter your Username and Password.

  2. After entering your full email and password, select Manual Setup. You should now be on the Incoming Server page.

  3. Locate the drop down box at the top that typically displays "POP3" by default. Touch and change the selection to IMAP.

  4. In the Incoming Server box, change the entry so that it displays "imap.aol.com". Nothing else should need editing; Select Next.

  5. You are not on the Outgoing server page. Change the Outgoing server box so that the entry displays "smtp.aol.com". Nothing else should need editing; Select Next.

  6. Assuming everything went through with success, you will now be prompted to choose display/account names for the email. If you are planning on setting up multiple emails, then label so that you can differentiate this one from the others.

Once you have done this it will begin to receive emails with 15 minutes.

Hi Zachary,

Thanks for your reply - we went ahead and reconfigured both of our phones but we had to make sure the following was done:

*  incoming mail server - imap.aim.com

*  Use secure connection - none (or not checked)

*  port - 143

* outbound mail server - smtp.aim.com

*  Use secure connection - none (or not checked)

*  port - 587

The details are in this link: https://motorola-global-portal.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/48924/~/droid---aol-email-set-up.

In the link, it says to use SSL encryption, but this doesn't work.  On the Droid X (not the Incredible) the Verify Certificate box should remain checked.

Our inboxes showed nothing until this morning, when email started to come in.  However, we were able to see our saved mail last night even though our inboxes showed nothing.  I figured this might be a limitation of the IMAP protocol on their mail server, since it wasn't pulling old messages from the inbox, but we could access all our other folders normally.

Right now, we're good to go.

Thanks!

Colin

Thanks for the ideas!

I deleted the account multiple times and reinstalled it back on the droid incredible. Still no incoming aol emails.

Zachary...thanks for the step-by-step directions on how to reinstall and the settings to use. Those settings were the same that I was already using on the phone, but I hoped that after reinstalling with your directions things would work.

My husband is not having any issues with his aol email on his incredible.

Still no luck...any other ideas?

Thanks again for everyone's help!

I called for support and tried taking the battery out and deleted and reinstalling the account. What I found to actually work, was under the menu, there is a "setup" it is the initial setup either you or a sales person set up for you. Go through the steps and add your AOL account, and I have been receiving emails since.

The support had even told me about an app called K-9 that they are suggesting to customers, so I am guessing this is a known issue.

Good luck!!
