Incredible not receiving text messages

My Droid Incredible will not recieve text messages. It's been going on for two days now. At first I had the "low space" icon, so I called Verizon, and after an hour on the phone and deleting lots of things, the icon went away. Still no text messages. I called again tonight. They did some other resets and things but ultimately couldn't figure out what was wrong. The tech said he'd call back in a few days with an update on the situation. I even downloaded the hotfix from HTC that Verizon didn't reccomend I do, which also didn't help the situation. Really??  This Incredible is obvioulsy a defect phone. Just the problem with the low storage space is ridiculous. No other phone has that glitch that makes users keep a minimal amount of apps and requires them to delete cookies and caches every other day. So, now I guess I just wait with my half-functioning phone until they can figure out what is wrong???

I am having the exact same issue. I can send text messages perfectly fine. I can receive and send emails fine. Making calls and receiving calls also works fine. I just cannot receive text messages. I also had the low memory icon for a while, and did some research on it. It appears that this is caused by the gingerbread update 2.3.4. I never had any issues like this before that update. The weirdest part is that I did not have the issues imediately after the update, so my phone after the update was perfectly fine for about a week or two. It appears that we are not the only ones having these issues also, because in many google searches it appears that everyone that has the original incredible that has received the update to 2.3.4 is have at least the low space issue. Please Verizon do something to fix this. Even if it is not directly your fault, I feel as a cell phone carrier, you should take more action than just telling end users to clear their cache, uninstall apps, or reset their phone. Maybe some action such as helping HTC get word of the problem to fix it if it is on their level, or even if it is on the google level. Although I think if that were the case every phone with 2.3.4 would have the same issues, so that leads me to believe that it is  an HTC issue for this specific piece of hardware.

I also am having the same issue. After speaking with a technical support person for an hour the issue still hasnt been resolved. He suggested going ahead and replacing it, but since my screen is cracked the manufacturer possibly would charge me 200 and send my phone back. i am going to the store tomorrow & seeing if in the store they can do something to fix my phone! I did get credited for text messaging on my account for the next two months so even if they cant fix the problem right now, they possibly can credit your account until they fix the issue. Hope they get this issue fixed because up until now I really loved my Incredible!

How does that work with replacing your phone though anyways? Did the tech guys say they would replace it for free? In your case I see why you would have to pay since your screen is cracked, but I do not think we should have to pay for a new phone if we decided to get our phones replaced. I had no problems before this, and I do not think we should pay money to fix a problem that was not caused by us as the end users. I would like however to upgrade to the Incredible 2, for many reasons, but none of them are because of the experiences with the Incredible 1. I have loved this phone and have had it for well over a year now. I do not have an upgrade until  early next year though. I think that Verizon needs to work with HTC or Google to get this problem fixed, depending on where the problem originated. OR they need to give everyone experiencing this problem an upgrade to the Inc 2.

I had the same problem.  I called Verizon's help line and went through a series of attempts which did not fix it.  That person connected my to tech support who knew exactly how to fix it.  She had me type in a url into my browser, which downloaded a patch to my phone.  After restarting it, not only did my text messaging work, but all the texts I hadn't received came in too!

Thank you all for your input. It is greatly appreciated.

To everyone experiencing this issue please believe me when I say I understand how inconvenient this issue has been for you all. I'm always texting on my phone and would be upset as well if I were unable to receive text messages.

@Helraiserbh8908,

HTC has reported that since the MR4 update (Software Version 4.06.605.3) a limited number of customers reported trouble receiving text messages after completing the upgrade. Unfortunately, the only solution is to have your phone replaced. If your phone is still under the 1 year manufacturer's warranty or if you purchased the 2 year extended warranty we will replace your phone with a Certified Like-New Incredible 2 at no cost to you. This can only be done through Customer Service and would be shipped to you.

If you are experiencing this issue please contact us at 800-922-0204 and we'll be more then happy to assist you. We're available seven days a week 6AM to 11PM CDT.

So In other words, Since its been over a year since I bought my phone, and I dont believe I have the two year extended warranty, I have to fork out cash to rplace a perfeclty good (hardware wise) phone that HTC messed up because of a software update.... Seems fair. Explain to me why is it that all companies such as verizon, have adapted a new model of business that is based upon future expantion and basically money, rather than support? is it now getting to the point where its even too cheap to outsource support jobs??? so instead of back supporting older devices (and by old the standard now is 6 months at least) now all companies want to do is push out new products to replace the old products so that the customers have to spend more money. So basically now my phone has gone to **bleep**, without me having any influence on it or not, and I cant do anything but pay you guys for a new device. And I dont think its a limited number, as far as I have heard/read/been told, it is all who have the incredible 1 with the splash test update 2.3.4. That is why they halted the update and not everyone got the update. Because of issues. So basically anyone who didnt get the upgrade gets to keep there phone and has a dandy, issue free time. But those of us who did get the update are screwed over.

Thank you verizon for pushing HTC to do the right thing and make a patch..... not.  And thank you for screwing over the people who have a warranty still by giving them a "Like-New' Used Device. That part seems fair also.

My phone needed to be replaced with a refurbished phone four times while it was under warrantee due to defective hardware.  Now the warrantee has expired and an update comes out that causes the problem that everybody has had above to make my phone inoperable and the repsonse here from customer service is to buy a new phone?

If this problem isn't resolved, I will be breaking my contract, switching to another carrier, and never making the mistake of purchasing an HTC phone.  Five phone replacements in a 14 month period!?!  That is a disgrace for HTC.  Verizon's customer service solution is equally pathetic.

I also wanted to state here on these forums that there are many ways to let people know about these issues.  Make use of twitter, facebook, and consumer reporting agencies.  Verizon and HTC don't seem to want to listen to less.

Helraiserbh8908, thank you for sharing your concerns about this issue with text messaging. I understand how important a feature text messaging can be. Our product team is still working on a software fix to resolve the issues we have seen with Gingerbread update. In the meantime, please try downloading this hotfix for text messaging from your phone. This has been recommended by HTC and has resolved several users' text messaging issues.

MarquiaF...

I'm trying to install this fix and it's not working!

Can you elaborate on exactly what I need to be doing please?

I appreciate the help!

Hi taryngirl:

I'd be happy to elaborate on Marquia's solution above. The hotfix is something that you will download to your phone.  Marquia posted a hyperlink that must be accessed on your phone. This is a 3-step process.

1) Go to settings> applications> check unknown sources.

2) Navigate to this page using your Incredible.

3) Click on Marquia's hotfix link.

4) Follow any prompts on the phone to download.

Give it a shot, and let us know if it works.

Good luck,

So this patch worked for me too, but I am wondering if you delete this app am I going to be able to recieve text messages ever again? I was also told that I may not recieve the new update to fix this, so my phone will never be fixed. In other words your telling me the only fix for software that screwed up my phone is hotfix and if that's gone I will never be able to recieve text messages again?

OK, so I'm somewhat new to this fabulous party.  Recently I started having problems with texting.  I could still receive, but not send and getting the "com.android.mms has stopped working unexpectedly" error message.  Then last week stopped receiving texts completely.

I'm running Android 2.3.4.  Just yesterday I was able to finally install the 4.08.605.2 software update but that didn't fix the texting issue.  I found another post referencing that hotfix for the texting problem, and successfully applied it so now I can receive again but still cannot send.

I have one text that sits in the "Undelivered" folder that can't be deleted or resent no matter what.  I can't seem to delete any other texts prior to the date of this undelivered text, but can delete out ones after that date.  I think if there's a way to clear out that one undelivered text it might solve my problem.

Please help, but I'm afraid the answer is gonna be "factory reset" and I'm skeptical that will work because I've read plenty of these forums (and on forums in other android sites) and factory reset hasn't worked for any of them.

Thanks for anyone's assistance!
