An inside reliable Verizon source has revelead a definte releaes date of November 6th and the phone will be announced the 28th.
I'm about done posting on the Droid as the phone will now be out in 2 weeks. I will post a review on the Droid when it is available and move on to the HTC Desire, which is rumored to be called HTC Eris. We will see. If you guys have any questions feel free to post them.

Yeah, do we have any vague idea about the release date for the Desire? It supposedly was received in some stores earlier in the week (when the Dragon or whatever pictures surfaced).
I've seen the rumors floating around about the name being switched to Eris, which I almost believe is a twisted joke by clever Sprint fans or other Verizon haters. Eris is almost the opposite of a hero. She's a greek goddess, not one of the better ones, and here's the description:
"Eris is the Greek goddess of discord and strife. She is Ares' constant companion and follows him everywhere. Eris is sinister and mean, and her greatest joy is to make trouble. She has a golden apple that is so bright and shiny everybody wants to have it. When she throws it among friends, their friendship come to a rapid end. When she throws it among enemies, war breaks out, for the golden apple of Eris is the Apple of Discord. She did this once during the wedding of Peleus and Thetis, and this act brought about the Trojan War. "
Why on EARTH would you name anything after her????

The sales rep at the Verizon Store closest to me (Ohio) told me that he was trained on the Droid and another smartphone on Tues (20th). The other phone was an HTC, but did not have a name otherwise. He was told both droid phones would be released about the same time though the Droid would be released first.
Update: the Eris it is call http://gdgt.com/htc/eris/specs/. Released on the 6th. http://www.engadget.com/

Call me skeptical. First, the picture isn't the same as either the one the CEO is holding or the in-hand leaked picture from yesterday. Those have silver trim around the call and end keys, and the Verizon logo centered above the screen. I think this is a different phone. The screen seems bigger than 3.2", I'd guess 3.5" or 3.6". Could it be the Predator (or Passion) and they renamed it approaching launch? Anyway, I'm inclined to believe the Desire will be the Hero repackaged for Verizon and will resemble the photos from the CEO and the leaked in-hand pic. This Eris is something different: maybe more powerful, probably larger display. I recall somewhere reading that the HTC Android phone was fast and worked as expected. Could indicate it's not running the run-of-the-mill 528Mhz processor. This could be Verizon's simultaneous launch with the Droid of something more akin to the size of the Droid for those who wish to not have a keyboard. Guess we'll find out in two short weeks.
