I get this error message when trying to download certain apps or updates to certain apps from the market. There seems to be no reason for it, no pattern. Some apps (like StumbleUpon, Angry Birds Seasons, Schottgunn, etc) are giving me this problem. And after they fail to update, they don't reappear in my Downloaded section of the market so I don't know which apps on my phone won't be receiving any more updates.
This has been happening on both 2.3.340 and the version previous. Both the old market and new. Uninstalling market updates forcing an update did not work. Retrying repeatedly doesn't work. Trying hours, days, or weeks later doesn't help. I'm becoming quite frustrated.

I have provided some steps below that may help.
Step 1 – Ensure you are maintaining a good signal.
Step 2 – Complete a soft reset
- Power the device off
- Pull the battery out
- Place the battery back in
- Power the device back on
Step 3 – Clear the Market application data and cache (this will not remove downloaded applications)

Step 4 – Try removing some of the applications that are not native to the device and re-downloading them.

Not only does this not work, I get the same message when attempting to reinstall the app.

Remove SD Card and then install without card in device and see if it completes, if it does then you have files on card that caused this, this have always worked for me when this error came up..

I had that issue a few days ago. Check to see if those apps were moved to the SD card? If so, move them back and then try the update.
On a hopefully unrelated issue, a few days after that started to show up, my droid x went into endless reboot/long pause/freeze mode.
Hoping that a factory reset fixes that issue.
Update the thread if the move to the phone from SD card of apps works.

All 4 Applications I was receiving this error with did, indeed, reside on the sd card. I moved them to the phone but that did not resolve the error. I did need to remove the SD Card and THEN update / install the applications.. THAT was successful.. Thanks so much.
Taylor.
