Iphone vs Incredible

Can someone tell me if there is a difference between the Iphone & the Incredible?  I'm anxious for the Incredible to be in the stores so that I can go play with it before I decide to purchase it.  I'm a bit nervous about the touch screen since I'm not having much luck with my daughters EnV touch.

Thanks

I have played with the iPhone and with the Droid (can't get my hands on the Incredible yet, but the Droid offers a similar experience) and at the basic core, both phones are very good. Both offer touch screen interfaces will tons of apps you can download for specific features and needs. I actually prefer the touchscreen keyboard on the iPhone compared to the Droid's slider keyboard, but I am guessing the Incredible keyboard will be very much the same as the iPhone's. Some prefer Android over Apple. Some prefer Apple of Android. In my mind, Apple's operating system is a bit simpler to operate and use, but some think it is too limited and too controlled by Apple.

If you have very specific needs, such as blue-tooth voice dialing, Exchange syncing, etc., you may want to research and ask further questions, because both phones handle things a bit differently.

The Incredible will be available soon (pre-order now, available on April 29) on Verizon. The iPhone is strictly available on AT&T. While there are thousands of rumors that Apple is making an iPhone that will work on Verizon, I won't believe it until I actually see it.

Cheers!

Although I've never had an iPhone, some of my cowrkers do, and it's my understanding that they aren't able to customize their screens even half as much as we can. The Incredible has the Sense user interface, which to me just makes things make "Sense", if you will. You have up to seven screens, you can add shortcuts to apps on them, there are HTC specific "widgets" that you can add, plus Android widgets - it's fantastic! I think the iPhone makes you keep your applications in alphabetical order, and that's it.

You can compare the differences by looking at the features on each phone...

HTC Incredible

iPhone 3GS

iPhone 3G

Original iPhone

Actually one of the differences that I can name off the top of my head is that Inctediable runs on CDMA network and iPhone is made for strictly GSM network. Also with any android phone you'll have access to the android market where most apps are for free. Unlike iPhone there is a market, but I hear most apps you have to pay for. Personally I'd pick the Incredible over the iPhone any day.

Just so you are not confused...

From someone who has actually used an iPhone and not "heard about it" from a friend, there are thousands of free apps on the iPhone as well and the apps' icons can be moved around and don't have to stay in alphabetical order. Smiley Happy

With that said, I am excited to play with the new HTC Incredible as well.  What can I say, I'm a gadget geek?!

Yes, there are striking diferences between the iPhone/Incredible. They are two completely different animals. I'll try to make this short and consice so that you have something to refrence to. Get ready for Android vs. Apple 101 Crunch Time!

The Operating System:

iPhone: iPhone OS 3.0: Currently does not support multitasking, closed support system, very easy to navigate. iPhone OS.

Incredible: Android 2.1 OS that features HTC's Sense UI based around "scenes" that allow you to change the look and feel of your operating system UI at the time.

Specs:

iPhone: Comes with a 600MHz Apple-made processor, 16-32GB of internal Memory, no SD Card slot. 3MP Camera

Incredible: 8GB Internal Memory, 512RAM (I lbelieve, if I'm incorrect please correct me), an SD Card Slot that supports up to 32GB, 1GHz Snapdragon processor, 8MP High-Definiton up to 720p camera.

What can you do on it:

iPhone: You can do a lot of things, not everything. The iPhone OS is not open source, thus not being able to do half of the things any Android phone can. Everything is siphoned, and controlled by Apple, thus is governed by them. While they do all release controlled updates at one time, they also sacrifice usability in exchange for your soul.

Incredible: The nature of Android is Open Source, which means you can do anything and everything with it -- so long as you know what you're doing. Android allows developers and normal nerds like you and I to create applications with much penalty, and without a company breathing down our necks like if we're children.

How does it feel?

iPhone: No one can deny the sexy feeling of the iPhone, it's smooth, it's sleek, it's quaint. It's got it all.

Incredible: It's a race-car-ish sort of thing going on. It's not necessarily bad as much as it is surprising to see how well it works with the overall feel of the phone.

Is it fast?

iPhone: With it's controlled system, it allows the 600Mhz processor to really shine, so it does wonderfully.

Incredible: Absolutely fast. Speed demon fast. This is no cheap phone. You can have all seven pages running with widgets and it will perform flawlessly every time. It's quick, responds to touch well, and lovely all in the same.

720p isnt' offically supported from what I have read. It is capable supposedly. The memory is kinda tricky on this phone. I'm not exactly sure how it will be working. It is 512/512 with 8GB internal and external SD Card slot. The 8GB is what I want to see how it works for the phone. The reason we have to use task killers on the current phones is because the memory isn't clearing, because the app is still running in the background. Eventually the memory builds up and phone is slow and sluggish, till you kill the unneccasary apps that are still running. Memory compared between the Eris(1st) and Incredible (2nd) Memory ROM: 512MB, RAM: 288MB DDR ROM: 512MB, RAM: 512MB DDR I want to have one in my hands and try it. No doubt on the processor improving it.

As far as memory - which phone allows the most space specifically for apps? I can't tell you how irritated I get when I have to uninstall an app because I'm out of memory!

As of right now? The iPhone 3GS, because it uses the 16GB of flash memory that's in the phone to actually store applications. The Android phones uses the internal ROM that's given (Most that I've seen is 512MB). That means that the applications are smaller=less quality apps.

That said, the Incredible is pretty curious since specs show that it has 8GB of Internal Memory, and a separate memory with ROM. How that will affect creation of applications I do not know. But as of right now (and until Google implements Apps2SD encryption) the iPhone holds the most memory for applications.

Though you should know that the GB to MB ratio and side by side ratio comparison from iPhone apps to Android apps, they basically equate the same as far as storage goes. One can say this because since Android phones generally have an SD card to hold their media, we could do an app-to-app file size/storage/comparison/ratio from the MB of the iPhone apps, to the small MB that an Android app would be comprised of.

TL;DR iPhone wins, but a current gen phone with 512 ROM can hold as many (Android) apps as an iPhone can hold (iPhone) apps.

Really? OMG! I had no idea!

I saw that, too - and I can't see anywhere what that means for app storage. It's just weird, the one thing I care most about is the hardest to know. I can't care less about camera, playing music - even calling! It's all about the apps for me.

Wait - are you saying the apps themselves take up different amounts of space? I'm not sure I understand...

Is there any talk of some "super app holding" phone? Or am I the only one this matters to? I've heard rumors that they might make apps storable on the SD card, but I think that's fantasy. It would be nice, though.
