I got my D2G in March this year, and it always shut down by itself. I am waiting for the Gingerbread update to solve the problem... Up to now, i still didn't heard any good news, i found "coming soon" on the support page, but there is no further action. Does Moto and Verizon has any plan to release the update program?
The folks at Verizon don't have the answer to this. In fact, I've see Verizon employees post that they're not even aware that the gingerbread update for Droid 2 Global phones isn't available.
(it was available for a while, and then there was an encryption error syncing to MS Exchange, so they pulled it to fix that)
Motorola is going to be the source of a Gingerbread update, so if you follow https://supportforums.motorola.com/community/google-android/droid2_global?view=discussions&start=0 then you'll be standing "at the horse's mouth." However, at this point the mouth isn't talking.
I've also had a D2G since very late Feb. and a week after i got it i had to get a replacement because the screen stop working (display and touch) i got a new one, and it would always restart itself. I went on google and after reading many posts, i came to the conclusion that it had to do with my task killer. About 3 weeks ago, my screen stopped working again (only display) so i got a refurbished phone. I was having problems with my Facebook friends being added to my contacts, so i started chatting with Motorola Support this morning. The told me that 2.3 (Gingerbread) had come out. I went to update my phone (running 2.2) and it said that there was no update available. The person gave me the link to the Verizon website, which still aid coming soon. The person told me to hard reset my phone, which i refused to do.
Truthfully, I'm **bleep**. I've been waiting for this update for like EVER, and i keep hearing this and that about the update. Verizon needs to give a STRAIGHT ANSWER!
They released the update, then yanked it...3 months ago! In short, I'd say the Droid 2 Global isn't getting the update. This is my first Motorola phone, and will be my last.
They've actually rolled out updates to some of the customers with the D2G. Be patient, its coming.
Yes, a lot of people have it. Also, with some use of Google search, you can get the update yourself and install without doing anything that violates Terms of Service. The update is 4.5.607
