jco23,
Does it keep recontacting you to update this "MANDATORY" update every 30 minutes like it says in Verizon's instructions???
It bothers me that Verizon says it is MANDATORY. I own the phone, NOT Verizon, and I pay for the use of their bandwidth so why do/can they demand that I accept this update.
My phone works perfectly now so why would I want this update. I read the list of what the update does and I am NOT interested in what this update does

I was getting that annoying pop up message every so often, so I tried to download and install, but got an error picture (as opposed to a message). could be because my phone is rooted. it failed on both EP4D Tweakstock and EP4P Humble.
so nothing really happens. my only reason for installing this is that it supposedly clears up that "crackling" noise.... I only get that (and a squeaking sound) when playing back a video that I recorded.
other than that, my phone is working perfectly.

jco23,
I noticed that you said, "I only get that (and a squeaking sound) when playing back a video that I recorded."
Did you try that video somewhere else such as your PC or, better yet, in someone else's Charge phone. Maybe it's the video and NOT your phone. Just a thought my friend.
JerryF
PS, JCO23...if you want me to test it in my "completely stock GB Charge phone," send me a private message with your email address and I will send you my email address so you can send the Video to me.

thanks for the offer Jerry.
the video only makes that noise when playing back on my phone - it does not make that sound after posting to Youtube or anything like that.
so not a major deal for me. I'm okay where I am right now, but appreciate your willingness to help.

I have not received the update yet either. Kind of odd that my son and I bought our Charges at the same time last May and when we got the Gingerbread update it came to us at about the same time. In this case my son got his last Friday night and nothing for me yet.

I got the notification on my phone this morning. I downloaded it and let the phone do its thing while the update installed. I came back to it 30 minutes later, and now I am in a perpetual boot loop. It also appears that the phone is continuously sending my last text message - 6 times as of this writing. I don't know what to do other than a factory reset, but I don't want to lose all my apps and data. I'm contemplating going to the VZW store, but I suspect they will simply do the same factory reset, and from what I've read about other updates, there's no guarantee it will fix the problem. Anyone have any suggestions?

Everybody,
If this new FP1 update has destroyed your phone, BEFORE you do a factory reset, you might try to re-install GB 2.3.6.
I do not know if this will work but take a look here. Then go to page 3 of this thread and go down 8 posts to see the improved version on how to install GingerBread 2.3.6. The good news is that if it will not re-install GB 2.3.6 all that happens is that it will quit.

OTOH, the only damage will be that the battery will burn up, the chip will catch on fire, and your phone will explode...problem solved. JUST KIDDING!

I am surprised by the lack of comments in this thread. Hey folks, if you downloaded and installed the new Charge phone update FP1 please tell us your results.

I just got a call about 10 minutes ago and still getting Static/popping. Makes this update seem useless to me.

KJ1060,
Check that it installed okay because maybe it didn't, you never know.
Touch Settings>About Phone and then go down the list of items to "Baseband version." If it installed properly you will see that the Baseband version ending (the extent) is .FP1 instead of .EP4 which it was before the update.
Also, reboot one more time just for Good Luck.
If none of the above helps you, you might consider what one person did with their BlackBerry. See attached photo.

Baseband version
i5 10.06 V.FP1
SCH-I510.FP1
Kernel version
2.6.35.7-FP1
Build number
SCH-I510.FP1
I doubt the reboot will help since this will be restart number two since updating. Do like the new lock screen though, so +1 for Verizon. However they are still about 10 points behind.

I didn't have any problems downloaded the update and the phone is working fine. Don't like some of the cosmetic changes though (no more puzzle unlock), but the icons appear "cleaner" now.
