When I send one of the smiley faces, it will let me choose one of the 15 different android characters, but after I choose it, it turns into text format and sends it as text format. When my friends receive it on their end, it is the littler green android character. This also applies for when they are sent to me. I can only receive them in text format. I do have the option for all animation to be showing checked. Any ideas?
Android will only replace the text emoticons with the android ones when the text contains the full emoticon which is the exact same characters for the emoticon as the picture you select. The emoticon that you select will show as normal characters when you see it before you send a message. When you send a message, the emoticon that you selected is translated to the Droid Emoticon (littler green android character) for compatible devices. The rule is the same way for messages that are received. If the font or text is not the same as preloaded Android emoticons, then the message would be only text. This is a normal operation of the default messaging application.
