For l the users really wanting a sure answer about this information have you tried calling CS and asking Verizon's answer for this... I really never thought about it much because if the phone functions as I need the number can be anything they want.

My phone, in which the MIN is the same as my phone number, was a number I got from Verizon many years ago. (back in the 1990's)

Now my wife, who got her number at the same time I did (back in the '90's) later ported the number over to AT&T to get the iPhone, and then recently ported the number back to Verizon when they got the iPhone.  She is is Sacramento this week, and I will check her phone when she returns and report my findings here.

My daughter who got an iPhone from AT&T (a few years back), along with a new number, also switched to Verizon in Feb and ported her number over.  I'll let you now about her MIN and number also.

I would like to know the outcome here Dirk, I am noticing a pattern of haow I reported about ported numbers but for some reason a small hand full reported ported and listed as phone number...  Kind of wierd...

Hello happy forum members,

I appreciate all the input on this subject. This subject can easily get confusing and I would like the opportunity to explain what the two entries are. I'll start with the acronyms.

MDN - mobile directory number

MIN - mobile identification number

As many other forum members have explained, the mobile directory number (MDN) is the cellular number that is called to reach the mobile device. The mobile identification number (MIN) identifies the mobile unit within a wireless carrier's network. The key word is within. Other than to identify the mobile device to the network, this number does not serve any additional purpose to the user of the phone.

Since MDN & MIN are limited to ten digits, sometimes both of them may be the same or they may be different. Some common situations when they would be different are telephone number changes, which the MIN stays the same, and when a telephone number is being ported. When a number is ported from one carrier to another, the MDN is transferred to another new carrier per customer's request but another MIN needs to be reassigned so the new carrier receiving the number can identify the new device on the network. I hope that my explanation did further confuse anyone.

Thank you...

Wildman,

My wife is back in town but I can find a MIN number on her iPhone.

Any idea where I should look?  Do the Verizon iPhones have a MIN?

Anyone?

Dirk have you looked in your settings on your iphone to see if it shows the MIN or tried to google min no. for iphone

On my X if i go to my settings > about phone > then Status it shows The Min but its not same as my cell No.
