MP3 files will not play

I copied DRM-free MP3 files from my retired Droid that had played just fine on the Droid onto my computer, and then copied them onto my Charge. The files and MP3 tags are seen on the Charge since it knows about all of the artists and albums, but when I try to play them through the included Music Player app, on every track I get the message "Sorry, the player does not support this type of audio file", and if I try to play them with the Google Music app, I get the message "Error playing the requested track".
If I reboot the phone, the tracks to start playing fine, but at some point they go back to being unplayable.
Any solutions out there? (Other than rebooting?)

Hmmm... I don't have a definitive answer to your problem, but I have some questions and guesses.
First, can you play these files using your media player on your computer? Any problems similar to what happens on your phone?
Second, what was the source of the files in the first place? You say you had them on your old Droid, but where did they come from in the first place? Do you still have them stored at that original location?
Third, I did an internet search and came up with some similar problems, but not on the Droid Charge. One person in a thread said he solved his problem (he was trying to store/play MP3s on a Nook, I think) by re-encoding the files using Nero, a computer-based application that does cost money to purchase. You may want to consider that alternative if all else fails. And of course I make no warranty that Nero will work for you.

Yes, the MP3 files play fine on my computer, they played fine on my old Motorola Droid, and they play fine on my iPod devices. They are all 160kbps MP3s ripped from my CDs.
I tried to use an MP3 converter to convert them down to 128 or up to 192, to no avail.
Incidentally, I downloaded the PowerAMP app from the Market, and the MP3 files play with that app. However, this does not do me any good, as they do not play with the included Music Player or the Google Music app, and as such they cannot be used as a ring tone.
Come on Verizon and Samsung, you have got to be kidding me...

Perhaps try an app like Ringdroid to convert an MP3 to a ring tone without using the Music Player.
Just a thought...

I am having the exact same issue. The MP3 files I copied from my computer to the phone will play just fine... For a while... Then I am getting the same error message that you are receiving.
At which time, I reboot the phone and miraculously, they will start playing again. Which as you mention is a big pain. Something is occurring on the phone, at some point, that causes it to no longer recognize these MP3 files until after you reboot the phone once again. This happens multiple times throughout the day. I have been trying to discover what this "trigger" is that causes these MP3 files to no longer be considered valid on the phone.
I have set some of my ringtones to those MP3s. If someone tries to call me that has been assigned to one of those MP3 ringtones, the phone doesn't "ring" and I miss the call.
I notice that when the phone is rebooting, it runs "Media Scanner". It appears that the re-scan is correcting the problem? I had originally thought that it was a problem with the SD card itself, but if you are having the problem as well, I think it is more software related than hardware.
This is definitely a software bug / glitch. I haven't had the phone the full 14 days. I am about to return it and replace it with the HTC Thunderbolt. This is a deal breaker for me, I don't know about you. Pitty, it has such an awesome screen.

I am having this problem, also. If I restart the phone, the music files will play for a while, then I start getting the "sorry, the player does not support this type of audio file" error message.
I found one discussion online that suggested uninstalling the Twitter app to fix this. I have uninstalled that app, but just now and I still had to restart to get the music files to play. I'll report back when it happens again.

Yeah, I thought I had it figured out when I installed the Weather Channel app... But then I got the error reading the MP3 files again and had to reboot the phone before the system would once again recognize them... Again.
I installed twitter... Just to try that out too. Do you happen to have Facebook for Android installed? I installed that in addition to the Facebook app that came preinstalled so that I could upload my photos to facebook from my phone. I was going to try uninstalling that as well. This is so ridiculous. Tomorrow make day 14. My last day to return it and exchange it for a different phone.

Having the same issue with my phone. Something is really glitch with the software/hardware on this phone. If I could I'd take the phone back and get another model but I'm stuck due to 2 yr contract. Pay over $200 for a phone and the **bleep** thing should work without having to reboot it every other day.

Over at XDA or Android Fourms someone posted the same issue. It appears the official Twitter app can be the cause of this issue. They state it is a known issue and uninstalling the official twitter app solves the problem.
I would like to add that I do not have an issue playing mp3's. I also do not have the official twitter app installed.

Hello LeafsFan47,
I do understand multiple resets can be a bit much. I will lift this up with Samsung to further investigate. Once I receive a response I will reply with updated information. Thank you.
