Mac Book Pro and Droid x

I cannot get my Mac Book Pro to recognize the drive "disc chip" in the Droid X so cannot get the gallery feature to work. I have removed the battery and chip and replaced and formatted the disc to no avail. Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks

I am having the exact same problem.  Snow Leopard's disk utiility recognizes the Droid X, but it does not show up in the finder.  Doubletwist even recognizes the phone, but that doesnt do me any good when I'm trying to move data that isnt movies, music, or photos.  Any ideas on why this is going on?  I'm going to have to return the phone if I can't even get simple data transfer to work.

Hope I'm not repeating something you've already tried, but after hooking the X up to your Mac, did you drag down the status bar (where you'll see a USB icon), select "USB Connection", and check "USB Mass Storage?"  I have full access to the card from my MB Pro.

Thanks for the response.  I have tried that (and most everything else).  I've done a soft reset, formatted the SD card, tried USB debugging, etc.  I just don't understand why disk utility and Doubletwist sees it, but the finder doesn't.  I may try wiping the phone, but I really don't want to.

The only other thing I can think of, other than a mounting problem of some kind, is to ask you if it's showing up on your desktop (NO NAME is what the volume shows on mine) but not in the Finder window.  If, by some miracle, this is the case, you need to check External Devices in Finder>Preferences>Sidebar.

Sorry, I can't be more help.  Mine has mounted just fine on 2 Macs (iMac and MB Pro, both on 10.6.4) since I put it into mass storage mode.

Here is what I did on my iMAC:

-Plug in DROID X via USB

-You'll hear your phone say "DROID"

-On the notification bar on your phone, you'll see the USB connection icon.  Pull down the entire notificaton screen

-Tap on the new USB connection you made displayed

-Now you will see 4 options: PC MODE, WINDOWS MEDIA SYNC, USB MASS STORAGE, & CHARGE ONLY

-Select Charge ONLY then tap OK

-Now go back and pull down the notification bar again on your DROID X and tap on the USB connection again.  You will receive the same list of choices again:smileytongue:C MODE, WINDOWS MEDIA SYNC, USB MASS STORAGE, & CHARGE ONLY

-This time, select USB MASS STORAGE, then tap OK.

Now you will see the drive show up in FINDER and if you have any photos on your phone already, iPhoto will pop up and display the content to you.

What I did discover is while it is in USB MASS STOARGE mode, it still provides a charge.

Do not forget to EJECT the DROID via FINDER when your done so you don't corrupt your SD chip.

Hopefully this helps.

I am having the same problem. I tried all of that and it still won't recognize the card if it is in USB mass storage mode.

Maybe if you provide a step by step of what your doing I can help.

I've helped two strangers at Starbucks with this exact issue on Macbooks, with the steps I posted earlier, with no issue.

When you plug in the phone to your mac, the default for the USB connection is PC MODE.

Change it to CHARGE ONLY first then tap OK.  Then go back and select USB MASS Storage then tap OK. And you should be golden.

If your devices menu is not expanded, expand it in FINDER and you should see a new device with generic name NO NAME.

Perhaps your SD card has been corrupted somehow?

The NO NAME folder shows up on my Mac but when I try to access it under Media Share, it says the card is missing and if I look under SD card and phone storage settings, it does not recognize the card. I tried moving some files into the folder on the Mac but it says it cannot because it's in use. Then when I disconnect it from the computer, the phone recognizes the card again when I look under SD Card and Storage. I tried doing what you suggested, and I also unmounted and reformatted it. If the card was corrupted, wouldn't the phone have problems with it? I guess I will have to take it into the store but I have a feeling they won't be much more help.

Ok lets give this a try:

-Go to settings

-SD CARD and Phone Storage

-Unmount SD Card and tap

-Once unmounted tap on FORMAT SD card.  (If the format fails then you might have a bad SD, if not then your good)

-Reboot your DROID

Once you come backup from the reboot, follow the steps that I posted earlier for accessing the SD CARD.  Do not try using the media share.  I believe that is just for PC only.  ( I could be wrong not sure yet ) Now go to you MAC.

After you follow the original steps I posted, open up FINDER and try and dump something on the SD Card.

If it works, try this: EJECT your DROID from the MAC, then take a few pictures, then reconnect.  When you hook backup, the SD should show up in FINDER, and iPHOTO should open up and make a connection to your SD CARD.

Come on lets get this thing going!  I'm pulling for ya!

Am having the exact same issues, tried your suggestions, but when I try and drop the movie into the "no Name' icon, it gives me error codes such as "finder cannot complete operation because some data could not be read or written". Others have come up as well, looked up movies on the X, and found them, but it will not play it. Bout ready to lose it here. This has to be possible.

I had some of these same issues, yet I believe mine was operator error- I was getting the same "error unable to find...." but I figured I was not in the correct mode (PC mode, Charge only, USB mass storage, etc.).  I would love to see a manual or a brief overview on how to use each of these listings and what you must do if on a Mac.  I have spent hours playing around trying to figure out what works best.

I also don't get what the DLNA is -?  I see the 4 options (share media, copy media to phone, Play media, copy media to server)

I also (once) tried to unmount my SD card when it wouldn't read or gave an error message and later having to remount it; not sure why it worked out when I unmounted the SD card; what is the purpose if I unmount the card; does it become a stand-alone media card able to be downloaded or transfered for data?

I use a MBP & also access with VMWARE fusion 3.1.  I can use the Windows side via V CAST MEDIA (which isn't working right for me tonight)  or use iPHOTO when hooked on the MAC side.
