Just bought two Leather Belt cases for my DX's.
Case A is worn Horizontally and there is a Magneticc catch -- Works fine
Case B is worn Vertically, DX drops downinto the top end of the case. Magnet closure causes the DX to immediatelly go into Car Dock mode as the DX slides down into the case. I will swap out the Vertical case for a horizontal case tomorrow.

If you want to disable auto dock try "Dock Nothingness" but if you want to use dock still use "Dock Simulator" with "Dock Nothingness" so you can bypass auto launch but can still run dock when wanted.

I wish I had read this post before calling Verizon Customer Srervice yesterday -- what a NIGHTMARE. Phone was fine before the OS upgrade that happened automatically about an hour previous to that.
The first person was clueless about the magnetic case latch problem, so after 15 minutes or so of going back and forth she transferred me to the Tech Service Department. The guy there said he never heard of the problem before -- he kad me do a complete reset (after assuring me that the phone would be restored with the original data). Well, I got the phone numbers bacvk but all the free applications were history (which had taken hours to get "just right"). After that it had the same problem -- went into Car Dock Mode and unlocked when putting in case. The Tech Guy was clueless -- said he never heard of that -- so he gave up and has sent me a new/"lke new" -- supposed to arrive tomorrow. So todaty I Google the problem and find out it's a very common complaint -- e-mails on this go back to February.
Based on the Google search I downloaded the Application Dock Blocker and the problem was instantly solved.
All I can say about Verizon Tech Service is that (in my experience) they are really a bunch of clueless morons with no clue how to properly troubleshoot a problem they haven't seen before. Next time I'll start with a Google Search versus thinking that Verizon could possible solve a problem.

Yes, I too pirchased a non-Droid X case with magnetic closure, and I too was always going into car dock. (Why only car dock?) My solution was to purchase a case made for the Droid X. But Wildman's solution is cheaper. I'd probably go with his suggestion.

There is two sensor areas that can be triggered when placed in dock, one for the Home dock and other for Car Dock, the holster usually hits the center sensor that is the one for the Car Dock.

That makes sense.

Following up. The vertical case had the magnet in the body of the holster and therefore in close proximity which activated the sensor in the DX. The horizontal case has the magnet in the Flap which closes ovet the outside of the holster maintaining distance between the magnet and the sensor, so I swappped out the cases and I have two Horizontal holsters which I can use if I am careful to keep the DX away from the Flap when holstering the DX.
A velcro solution would solve the problem altogether and be more secure than the Magnetic clossure and I may go that way if the magnetic flap presents a problem.
Thanks for the help and the good idea.
