I can imagine the inconvenience you have gone through with the Market. Did you notice the Market stopped after making any changes to the phone or downloading any apps? I would suggest clearing the cache of the Market application.

Clear cache and/or data
If the Market still fails to open, try running Safe Mode. This will stop programs from automatically starting in the background and will help determine if the problem is related to an app. Here is a link with instructions to enable and disable Safe Mode. If the Market opens in Safe Mode the next step would be to start removing apps one by one to determine which is causing this problem. I would be more than happy to troubleshoot further, if needed.
