Mobile Hotspot for Droid 2

Hey,

girlfriend just purchased a Droid 2, we have been trying to run the mobile hotspot app. yes we have paid the $20 a month (which sucks by the way).  The problem we are having is that it seems to work with some computer OS and not others. Example I am able to connect to the mobile hotspot using a laptop with Windows 7 with not problem. I am also able to connect my Omnia which is running Windows mobile 6.1 with not problem. When we try to connect with laptops running Window XP home or pro, neither one will connect. The computers see the mobile hotspot, full bars and everything, they just will not connect. Keep getting messages stating that connection is out of range or unavailble try again, even though the phone is right next to the computer. It appears that it is an issue with the operating systems with the computer. I have searched the web and different forums looking for answers. There seem to be quite a few people with the same issues, but no answers seem to be available. Even been on the phone for several hours with both Verizon and Motorola and they don't seem to have a clue as to the issue, let alone how to solve it. Any help on this from anyone would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

SMB

I have also had problems with the Mobile Wi-Fi Hotspot. I can connect my MacBooks to the hotspot, but the connectcion is always dropped after a minute or two. My 3G signal is very strong.

There have been numerous other complaints about this on the Motorola Forum, both for the Droid X and the Droid 2. No resolution seems to be on the horizon. I will be returning the phone this week. It is absolutely unacceptable that the phones were shipped, this feature was advertised, and that Verizon had the nerve to chharge $20 extra for it when it clearly never worked.

I wish I could help. I just enabled the hotspot yesterday because where I was only had dialup. It was pretty seamless setting it up to a Vista lap top, but every 5 minutes or so it would drop the connection. When tapping the hotspot back on, the lap top would only see a local connection and no internet. I'd wait about a half an hour and it would work again but for only about 5 minutes. Even when the hotspot connection DIDN'T drop... it had the laptop seeing local connectivity only. This sucks for what was touted as the ultimate phone. If they try and say I went over 2G messing around with getting it to work, they can kiss my a** and my business good bye.

We had this problem too; we called Tech Support multiple times and they'd run us through all these steps and we'd still have the same problems:

  • SLOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOW Speed: utterly useless and painful
  • Disconnects every few minutes

Then they said we had a bad Droid 2 and should get a new one.  Now I see that's garbage because other people are complaining about the same problem.
