Thanks Verizon Wireless community for all of your responses!
We have identified the root cause of the software issue on the Samsung Charge causing the mobile hotspot to close. Great news! A software update is now available and will be pushed over the air daily. You will get notification that an update is available on your device.

Install this app.
Create a widget on the homescreen.
I picked Elixir 1x1
Click on the X at the top and choose Wi-Fi Ap(Hostspot) switch.
Then click create.
Then click on the widget you created and it will launch your mobile hotspot.

Hey byrnsey88, I just wanted to say thanks for the elixer tip... It works great.
I work in IT and as much as I love to troubleshoot this kind of thing, this is my first Android phone and was honestly about to take the {word filter avoidance} back to Verizon and make them eat it.
I evaluated hotspots and phones for a month before settling on Verizon and the Charge moving over from an ATT Iphone because ATT sucks and because lets face it 10-20mb/s down is a lot better than 1-4mb/s down. Of course the second my trial period ended though, the hotspot crapped the bed and I think last night an Verizon update got pushed that is keeping me from playing any music media... I'll have to start researching that one too now I guess. Why is it that Verizon plays dumb whenever I call with an issue that is documented all over the web by the way? Do they think they can just use the force on us and we'll go away...
Anyways, thanks for the tip... At least I can use my brick as a hotspot again... It was a really nice coaster though...
Cheers,
Ken

Your welcome kmacinto. Yeah love verizon for the speeds and coverage in my area. Yeah not sure about why they would play dumb. I guess would be to have a consistent answer from all techs.

Hello happy forum members,
I have some exciting news. As you may know, the software update on the Droid Charge is being rolled out in stages starting yesterday. You can expect to receive a notification on your device as to when it's available for you to download and install wirelessly. I have just received this update on my Charge & I am able to successfully use the mobile hotspot without the use of a workaround. Just wanted to share my thoughts with everyone & assure that everybody's concerns have been heard.
Thank you...

Here's the rest of this exciting story. VZW is giving themselves 30 days to roll out the fix. Therefore you may or may not receive the update until July 8. They can't tell you when you will receive the update. It is not being rolled out by market. It's being rolled out according to some secret serial # sequence. And nothing can be promised with regard to extending the free mobile hotspot promotion that was offered in order for you to purchase the phone. So we have lost the promotion from June 1 to 15. We all know there is another name for this practice. I am not exactly sure how this assures that everybody's or anybody's concerns have been heard for a $300 phone. Can anyone enlighten me?

Yes changing the date does work but the Elixier Widget works great.
Tier 2 support told me that they have a team of people working on it.
This seems more like a field test for when they make the foolish decision to charge for the hotspot feature.
Then click on the widget you created and it will launch your mobile hots

As anyone called into Customer service to ask about?
I'm most definitely NOT a VZW employee. If a post answered your question, please mark it as the answer.

I just got off the phone with a Verizon Customer Service rep. She said they are aware of the problem and are currently testing code for the software update (I think Samsung is responsible for that). Verizon is expecting the upgrade to be pushed out on June 9th/10th. Unfortunately the rep didn't know whether or not they will be extending the free trial.

Freakin' unbelievable!!! I use mine for remote video demos and was embarrased in front of a client this morning when it didn't work. I read these posts, set the date back to May, and Boom, it works! So thanks to the community for the help, but HUGE FAIL for Verizon! I just switched from T-Mobile, and I'm starting to wonder why...

This is unbelievable. I called support on Saturday and Verizon said Samsung turned it off because of a bug. I called back in the afternoon and they said the same thing. I emailed Samsung and they said it was Verizon's problem to talk to Verizon support. I emailed back and said I had talked to support and they say it is Samsung's problem. They emailed this morning stating that Verizon turned it off June 1.
Called Verizon this morning and they are still claiming that Samsung is the problem. Verizon service what a joke
