Motorola Android data

I just check my usage and low and behold I have data usage -- even though I have not sent or received any data.

Exactly what is the Android sending/receiving when not in actual use?

And #2, why is no direction specified.  Are these transfers to or from the Android.

Thanks for the reply BUT ...

My question still remains -- 'what is this phone sending and receiving?'

I'm not synching anything AND there is nothing on the phone to synch.

If it's synching my contacts without my okay then I'm returning this phone to Verizon.

I have a firm rule: "No calling the mother ship without my okay!"

When I set my phone up for the first time, it required access to my gmail account so it would be logical to assume the phone is syncing the gmail accounts automatically.

I believe by default the phone is also set up to automatically check for updates so, in essence, it is phoning home.

Then there are also the apps - many rely on the ads (which I believe also use data connections) for a revenue generation source.  At least when you install an app, it clearly states what the app is going to do so you can decide if it is worth the risk.

Could be a lot of things using data legitimately, but then if you don't want to use the data functionality of the phone, I would think there are a lot better phone options for a lot less $$.

Woah woah woah. Calm your horses, dude. To keep contacts, Gmail, Calender, and any other Google (or other) applications running and up to date it will sync anything at anytime. While your phone is charging, sync. When you're browsing, sync. When it's on standby, sync. You can manually sync if you want by going to Settings > Accounts and Sync > Auto-sync and uncheck. By the way, why would you get a phone expecting it to not sync automatically?
