My Motorola droid's touch screen is starting to have a mind of its own. the pages move by themselves, there are occasional dead spots, and the settings and phone buttons do not work. i've tried resetting, removing the battery, cleaning the screen, but nothing works. it started slow but now it is constantly operating on its own. I have not dropped the phone, got it wet, or any damge. Any suggestions on how to fix this?

It also may be an app causing the weird behavior. Installed anything recently?

Good morning! I'm sorry to learn of the condition of your phone. You've done some excellent troubleshooting! Something I have had a lot of success with, for the original Moto Droid, is the alternative master reset (steps here). If the issues continue, I'm happy to assist with any potential options to replace the device.
Thank you!

I am having the exact same problem. Sometimes I can't unlock my phone because the unlock slider is in a 'dead' zone, and browsing web pages is impossible since as soon as they load the screen starts flying all over the place. I've only noticed it happening in the past few weeks.

I learned to love my Droid's and now its practically un-usable! I'm having the same issues.
The back and menu button won't work. I cant play SOLITAIRE!!!! The touch screen has dead spots and now, I cant unlock my phone at all. I have to place calls using my Bluetooth or place my phone on the cradle charger, which automatically open it up.
In spite of all of that, I love my phone and I'm willing to try the Master Reset or whatever to get back to enjoying all this Smartphone offers!
I've seen after-market advertisements for screen digitizers that suppose to correct some problems like this, do you think that's possible?
I too have had my phone for over a year and have no warranty. I really don't want a brand new model, I have to take time to learn and can't afford.
I open to any suggestion!
Thanks

I'm having the same symptoms as the OP, except: the "mind of its own" behavior is interminent, but the dead spots are dead.
Subscribing to this thread in the hope that someone eventually can suggest something.
Meanwhile, I'm assuming that the screen has to be replaced, and that parts & labor would both be high.
