I have had problems with the Droid X in the past few months. (mostly because i had no idea it needed to be updated and once i did update it it seemed fine). But now the keyboard just doesnt want to work. I type a single word and then it exits the type screen and brings up the message i am trying to reply to. i then have to exit that 3 times and back out of my message box. then go back to my inbox, re-enter the reply scrren just for it to happen again with the next word i type. i have been having to use the talk to text feature. and while that does work, it lags a lot and i am tired of dealing with it. i have had the phone since december of 2010, is there anyway i can get a new phone of equal of lesser value or something? i hate this phone so bad. (which is a shame because its a good looking phone, just a total piece).

The first thing I'd try is to clear the cache .... try this. Very benign, unlike the Factory Reset process.
Wiping cache partition- cures many ills and is better to start with this than a (gulp) full Factory Reset.
- Power off
- Power On Holding Home Key
- When Andy with Exlamation Point Shows up Press BOTH Volume keys
- Use Volume Keys to navigate to "wipe cache partition" and tap power button to select
- Wait for it to finish and select reboot system

I'll tell you that there is little to no chance that you will be allowed to get a different phone. If your phone is faulty they will replace it with a Droid X.

Agreed, especially since it is 9 months old. if anything, it will just be a Refurb unit.
Anyway, if you take it to verizon, they will likely just do a Factory Reset .... which you can do on your own if the Cache Clearing procedure above doesn't fix it.
Let us know what happens.

My on screen keyboard has been a bit slow from time to time since the update. It usually catches up pretty quickly. I ended up doing a factory reset and it improved slightly, but still lags a bit at times. I've noted the Motorola Social Media widget is downright slow sometimes, and even after you scroll through a few dozen entries from facebook and twitter, put the phone in sleep mode, and wake it back up, it will scroll through the same entries you've already read......great looking interface but buggy.

Also just to add, if you're using a texting app such as Handcent SMS or anything similar, try uninstalling and reinstalling it (don't worry, your texts won't go anywhere when doing this)
Another suggestion would be to turn off any options you have enabled to make sound or vibrate on keypress as this can cause the keyboard to lag.
It's unfortunate that this is causing you to not like the phone. It's a great phone when working properly.
