Music files not compatible?

mrandmrsmiller

Anyone else had an issue with their music files not being compatible with the player after a couple of days having the files on the device and having them work fine? Mine has done this on three different occasions, even after i hard reset the device, had the files work, then later this afternoon they no longer work. Does this have to do with the stock music app, could buying a better app off the market help this situation or not so much? The hard reset however has helped with many of the issues i was experiencing with my droid x. I was wondering should i also format my SD card? If i haven;t formatted the SD card should i hard reset all over again and format the SD card because there may have been residual issues from before the reset left on the SD card? At any rate I went to format the SD card and it was greyed out and I was unable to do it. What is the procedure for formatting the card? Sorry if my post rambled a bit im kind of enjoying figuring out how to make my phone function properly.

It wont hurt anything but formatting card may not be needed but it is wise to cleanup any old files that was left over from any apps the has been uninstalled because this causes issues under some situations.  Also the issue with player has been reported and Motorola and Verizon is looking into the issues according to reports.  Try Zimly or Meridian Media Player from the market that is free and see if it helps but I am not sure its a player issue.

ok so i restarted the phone and then the files miraculously worked again so i guess everything is good. So you don't think its a player problem is it just another glitch from the update then?

That is correct, a number of users started having this issue after Froyo 2.2 was installed onto their device...  This seems like a OS bug that is intermittent for some.  So far I haven't seen this issue on either of my devices.

The issue appears to be a similar issue that Windows Mobiles had with file association, a app would modify some information that usually informed the players how to handle curtain files that ended of making all the players report that the file was incompatible or unknown, I assume this is something similar and this would be a OS issue not player related.

Besides if it was the player issue it wouldn't effect all players and all formats.
