My Verizon Mobile update ruined my phone

2 days ago I updated the My Verizon Mobile application. Nothing happened for a few hours until suddenly all of my applications started to force close on me. Didn't think much of it and figured it would fix itself after a reboot.

Yesterday I woke up, turned my phone on, and same thing: Every app began to force close on me. Some were force closing before I even opened them (Twitter, Gun Bros, Folder Organizer, Facebook, App Brain App Market) the rest force closed after I attempt to open them.

I backed everthing up on my SD card and took it out and did a Factory Data Reset in the Settings > Privacy menu. Seemed like everything was going to be okay after it started up and I was prepared for the phone to be in it's factory state.  However, it booted back up and it asked me if I wanted to use TwLauncher or LauncherPro. I was confused. Then the same thing: a ton of my apps were force closing before I'd even try to open them. I then googled how to do a hard factory reset (by Pressing Volume Down + Home + Power). That brought me to the Android Recovery Menu and from there I hit "wipe data," hit yes to confirm, and it took less than 10 seconds to complete. That took me as a surprise, but went on to reboot the phone anyways. Rebooted it and EVERYTHING WAS STILL THERE! I was in awe. I even attempted to manually uninstall and clear data for every app I have (Over 65 applications) and reboot, but they all reappear after it's turned back on.

At that point I called Verizon Tech and they had me do everything I had previously done, as well as enter the phone in Safe Mode (by pressing the Menu button went Samsung appears and holding it down) and doing a factory data reset through the privacy menu. Rebooted and it brought me to the Android Recovery Menu, which isn't supposed to happen. He had me wipe data from there and reboot yet again. And of course, all of my apps were still on my phone, force closing.  He made the order to send me a refurbished one tomorrow, so I'm hoping nothing goes wrong there.

A few others on the web are having this same issue after updating My Verizon.

SOMEONE PLEASE FIX THIS DEATH APPLICATION.

I received the Droid Charge on Wednesday, July 20, 2011.  However, it was a replacement from my bricked Samsung Fascinate. I'm not sure that I would be given a brand new one.

Dear boundless,

Sorry to hear that. You mentioned a refurbed phone was being ordered for you. I assume, even though you are new to the forum, that you have owned your current Charge for more than the 14 day free return period. If not, VZW owes you a NEW Charge.

Dear boundless,

I think that may depend on how much you paid for the Charge, whether it was an early upgrade or you got a refurb. If you paid in effect full price for the phone, you should demand a new one. Hey, try it anyway and make them tell you why you can't have one! You can always argue...

I am having the same issue. Waiting for my replacement currently.

It is really irritating though that I drop over $300 for a brand new phone, only to have a Verizon update screw it up horribly, and then (only 18 days after purchase), all I can get is a refurb replacement. Verizon messed up the phone! They should replace it with new. And I'm absolutely stunned that they can't even flash the phone in the store. Why even bother calling them "Techs" if they can't actually tech anything??

I'm sorry you were having problems with the replacement Charge. Since it was a replacement for the Fascinate, we would send another Certified Like New Replacement  in its place.
