My camera quit working on my Droid Mini last week. I get a black screen when trying to take a pic and then a message "Camera error restart the camera", which doesn't help to restart the camera. I tried shutting down the camera and restarting it a couple of different times but it didn't help.
Any ideas on what to do? thanks

wrigs,
Help has arrived! Let's take a closer look to see what may causing this issue to occur. Does your device have any physical/liquid damage? Is there any cases or accessories that may be covering the camera lens? Did this issue began after any recent software updates or application downloads?

Thanks for the reply. As far as physical damage there appears to be none on the case, screen or lens. I have no case on the phone but I do carry it in a leather case clipped on my belt. The most recent app I installed was Zinio for reading PC World magazine. I think the camera was working after that but I'm not 100% sure on that.
I also tried the suggestions in the reply from B33 and cleared the Gallery cache and did the system Cache clear. Neither helped.
Thanks

You might Try running the phone in Safe Mode see if there's any 3rd party interference..

I mentioned running your phone in Safe Mode if you have not tried this.! or removed the app the one called Zinio it could cause the camera not to function properly.. Try either or see if your camera function's return.. If they don't you may have to consider running a Factory Reset..

Ok, I tried running in safe mode and the camera did not work. I uninstalled the Zinio app and another app I recently installed just before the Zinio one. Camera still isn't working and the error message still comes up.
Actually the front camera quit working first a couple months ago and the camera on the back was fine. When i tried to switch to the front camera the screen would go black but no error message.
If I do a factory reset will I loose all my photos?
Thanks, I appreciate your help.

Use too.. you choose too by-pass clearing everything in a Factory Reset now it cleans as I looked everything so if you can move your pictures to your SD card some way I would do that, your contacts if there connected through Google will all restore as soon as the Reset has finished and you go back and start setting up things and entering your Google account hopefully your camera's will start working if they don't then I'd go by a Local Corporate store and see what the can come up with they may have to send you out another Droid Mini

Hi, just finished the factory reset and restoring but still the camera does not work.
Can i take it to a local Verizon store if I had purchased the phone directly from Verizon Wireless?
Thanks for all your suggestions.

1-800-922-0204 or *611 Use option 4 ask to talk to a Representative Tell them what you experienced with both camera's and they should be able to help you resolve the issue with it.. The will possible send you a new Phone.. the same one you currently have.. Let me know what you find out. b33

Look at the above post check out as mentioned) But you can try and see if this helps get it going again, by doing the following.. Try a power cycle press the power button till the phone shuts off, Try clearing the Cache in the camera and the Gallery just the Cache.. If this does not get it going Try running system Cache clear..

Just curious what the resolution was for this problem. I have the exact same problem. Have tried everything listed except the factory reset. If it's not going to fix the problem, I'll save myself some hassle and just live with my no camera phone. Thanks!

bekah311, we don't want this to be an ongoing problem for you. Did you recently recieve a software update on your device? If so, that update may be conflicting with 3rd party applications that have been downloaded on your device.
Let's also make sure that this isn't a memory capacity issue. Delete all unwanted pictures and videos on your device and then power it off/on. Keep us posted.

Hello - Sorry to hijack someone's post.I don't remember a recent software
update - unless it happened automatically when I was connected to wifi. I
have run the phone in safe mode, doesn't this rule out a 3rd party
application issue?
Also, when connected to the PC, my phone shows 7.7 GB of 11 GB free. This
is with unnecessary apps and pictures deleted.
In the last 48 hours, the phone has gotten incredibly slow w/ jumpy screen
actions and battery is running low more quickly. I fear the phone is just
dying slowly!
Any suggestions you have would be appreciated. Thanks!

My 'about phone' screen shows that I have
23.3.24.obakem_verizon.Verizon.en.US. Wouldn't that indicate a newer
software update than the one you listed?

I didn't realize the Mini got the same as the Droid Maxx sometime they alter the OS's a bit even when the phone is in the same family of phone.. but that is the Latest update and the one I've been pushing off the installment of it on my Maxx there's been a couple of times it tried finishing the Installment but me knowing how to stop it I got stopped in time) But once it gets installed there's No changing it back to old OS and about all you can do is Wait till another update is pushed out or we get lollipop and hopefully in that OS it corrects the issues some are seeing..

Do you have a link to more info about known issues with this software
update? I'd be interested in learning more and comparing issues to see if
this is indeed the problem.

Give this a Try bekah311 I went to the Droid Mini Customer Help Page from Motorola when you Click on the Link you'll be at the top of the page scroll down midway and you'll see) Droid Mini Support Community This part is like our Verizon Forum but what you'll see there is Customers that have a Droid mini as you do or you may see some Droid Maxx or Ultra owners mixed in..
They may have some tips or suggestions that they have Tried after they got this update and there are Community managers there that can help answer Questions as well.. I'll look myself see what I can find and might post a little later on Hope this Helps..
