Hmmm - for the last week, at somewhere around 4:30 am my DROID gets lonely. It makes the notification chime, the screen illuminates, but.... nothing. No messages, no notifications, nothing but the friendly "wake up' chime. Any idea what might be causing this? It's not the alarm clock because that isn't set, and it's also not at the exact same time every day.... but a similar time, and I haven't noticed it happening at any time other than 4:30 ish....

my enV3 did the same thing and i have not noticed with my Droid but could it be that your Droid has finished charging and this is a type of notification? when my enV3 was fully charged the screen would go really bright for a while then dim. it would display "Charged"
but you might accept this answer....
the droid is just the beginning for computers to take over the world. it could be that your Droid is now becoming aware of its surroundings. soon it will join the DroidNet along with all the other self-aware Droids, its the beginning of the end.........

LOL!
Great suggestion, but I don't charge the phone at night. The phone is just SUPPOSED TO BE sitting their minding it's own business and watching me sleep.... but it does seem to have different ideas than I do about when I am done sleeping....

I thought maybe it was checking for updated apps.
The first night I had my droid, and I got a notification with the default "DROID!" sound. I almost jumped out of my bed. I immediately changed my notification options. Bad enough i get spammed, but for it to cause me a cardiac... that's too much a cost for a phone..

I suspect that might be what it is doing - and then just telling me there are no updates (thanks, it could wait until the rooster crows to share that info) I did change my 'DROID!' notification sound to 'pixie dust' within the first hour of ownership, but I haven't figured out where/how to change the notifications - still adjusting from making the big leap from a 1999 phone to a 2009 computer in my hand. But I'll continue along that path and see if I can figure out a way to change that notification option.... Thanks for the suggestion!

Your "main" notification volume and "sound" can be found from the main/home screen and pressing the menu. for finding the settings..
But apparently pixie-dust-wise you found that. A little too girly for me, but I'm glad you found one you like. Actually mine is pretty dainty too.. "highwire"
as far as every other app, you can usually go into each one (mail, etc.) and go into the menu and enable/disable/change the notification. You'll have to make sure your sound is one while you're making the change (not vibrate) or it might be grayed out.
something I learned was that one of my email accounts had been turned silent, while I forgot to change another one. That's why I jumped out of my bed, so don't forget that every email account can either have its own unique sound, or none at all. Each one is set separately.
You liking your little one-eyed friend?
It's weird when I turn it on in the dark. kinda droid-ish
