My fifth Droid X in 2 months is on its way.... Am I alone?

1st: Bad pixel - brought to a Verizon store, they sent me a BRAND NEW unit.

2nd: Froze during voice input request during navigation OR texting, this time I called Verizon, CSR sent me a "RECERTIFIED, LIKE NEW" unit.  Could it be better than BRAND NEW???

3rd:  When scrolling to the bottom of any large photo album in portrait mode, the unit would automatically kick back to the "Gallery" page just after half way but would work fine in landscape mode.  Called Verizon again, CSR sent me another "RECERTIFED, LIKE NEW" unit.  Losing more faith...

4th:  Just received it today, didn't even bother activating it.  The case is way out of alignment and there are nicks and scratches around the edge as if it had been pryed apart.  Failing to see the "LIKE NEW" part.  Called Verizon AGAIN, CSR is sending me ANOTHER unit which I'm sure will likely be "LIKE NEW".

5th: TBD...

I can't be the only one to be having these problems... can I?  Each time I experienced these functionaltiy issues, I google searched to see if anybody had posted similar complaints but never came up with anything so I had to call Verizon.  Their answer, obviously, has been to send me a replacement.  At least they're not ignoring me, but how many Droid X's do I need to go through before I get a good one?

Just saying.

As a guy with his first, only, and original X (as well as one of the first ones to be bought) and it working well the entire time, except for the low-volume ringer that's been discussed ad nauseum around here, I guess I'm not the guy to ask.

At least you don't seem to be worried about the 2.2 update...:smileyvery-happy:  Sorry, I know, that was uncalled for...

Good luck with that 5th one.

Except for having to do a soft reset when my Droid froze on me, I have had absolutely no problems. Love the phone.

Ummmm......in hindsight, that 1 stuck pixel doesnt seem so bad, huh?  I don't understand some of the issues, they can't be hardware related so it's only logical to assume you are having some software hiccups.  Did you take a look at the apps you have installed before shipping 5 Droid X's back to VZW?

hmmm.

Glad you guys are enjoying your Droids.

@djtonic: Yes in retrospect, the one bad pixel is not so bad considering all these other problems I've encountered.  There's no guarantee though that my original unit would not have revealed the problems I've had with all subsequent replacements.  I can't say if these problems are hardware or software related and am not sure how you are able to, but as a matter of protocol, VZ has you do a factory reset and has you run the phone without any user installed apps to see if the problem persists before they allow you to return it.  And also note that as stated, the 5th one is on its way to me and the 4th one was returned because it was physically broken.  Apps or not that is just not going to work for me.

I really hate to hear that you are having so many issues,.. Boy. What did you do to get the wrath of the Droid X gods because they seem to be hitting you from every angle.:smileyvery-happy:

Well I can say that I am still on my very first unit that I picked up on July 15th (Release Data) and it really haven't had any major issue, the few that I did have was from me learning about Android since I have been a WM user for so long this was somewhat a learning curve for me at first, I have got to the point that I picked up my WM device and totally had to think of how everything worked again, I have went Android and Windows wont get me back...

You are Definitely not alone! I just received my 3rd droid x yesterday. I had similar experiences:

1st phone had the same pixel problems which started hours after getting it. Yep, a brand new replacement was sent, it was actually ordered by a person the in store, and I received it the following week, while others were still waiting to get their new Droid X.

2nd phone started freezing up all over the place, and also shutting itself down with just regular use...phone calls, texting, etc.

I actually went back to the Verizon store (I live in the country so each trip is a 45 minute drive one way) with my phone and all of my accessories, and told the same person who ordered me the new replacement phone that I was concerned since this was the 2nd phone with problems, and that I should probably switch to the Droid 2, which had just come out the day before. He actually talked me out of my decision. He installed a free version of the Apps Killer software, and said that this should take care of my problem. He also convinced me that the Droid X was a far superior phone to the Droid 2, and I would ultimately be unhappy if I "downgraded".

Well, long story short...3 days AFTER my 30 days expired, I realized that I was really fed up with the constant freezing of my phone. But too late, I am now stuck with the Droid X. We'll see how this phone measures up. I was hoping that the 2.2 system upgrade would take care of the problem, but who knows when the system upgrade will be available?

I will end this by saying that I have been a happy, loyal Verizon customer for the past 12 years, and will continue to be one. Sometimes things don't quite work out as planned, but it most certainly is not the end of the world...still hopeful about the 2.2 upgrade. :smileyhappy:

@ mcpk & (integr8shun, sorry to kind of hi-jack you post, but not really),

Get rid of the task killer! And integr8shun, if you have it also that could be part of the freezing up. I also had the rep @ the store I deal w/ talk me into putting it on also. I actually had just talked to (1) of my co-workers a couple days after getting my X, as she & many of her family had recently got the evo @ sprint. We had gotten on a discussion about not being able to exit browser when done w/ it & she had said that the rep @ the sprint store they go to had done the same, talked them into loading ATK. They started having problems & when they took them back for tech to look @ them, tech told them to take it off, that was what was causing their problems.

I went ahead kept that in mind, mean while I started to get the reboot problem, freezing, nav dropping, etc. Now I know some (1) is going to chime in that it wasn't setup right (exception list, etc.) & that could very well be the case. However, after reading several posts on this, that droid os governs itself & taking into consideration what my co-worker told me that after removing it a lot of their issues went away.

So I went ahead & removed it & just rebooted w/ on / off button (1st). It was still rebooting on own, maybe not as often, but still happening. So @ that point I decided to go ahead & do a factory reset, fortunately most apps I had loaded were from market, & (1s) that weren't were from work & easy to get back.

This definitely took care of the issue, only reboots that I recall since then (about (1) mn ago), is if I get impatient about vz nav not loading quick enough & try to back out by mult. taps on back button, to try to re-start it ( for those that hate vz nav., I happen to love it, my fault, not vz nav.).

Also there are plenty of posts about setting X up to max. battery life, it works, w/ moder. use I'm getting between (2-3 days) on chrg @ this point.

integr8shun,

I know that is not your only issue, nor mine, but again itn definitely helped, & again my suggestion is get rid of the task killer. It should @ least poss. help u on those issues.

I'm on #3.  The first one constantly rebooted.

#2 had some lines going through the bottom of the screen.

So far the third has been good.  Have had it for a week now no problems.
