Hi Jmccoy70,
I understand your frustration in receiving multiple messages. Do you have any messaging applications downloaded to the device? If do, please remove them and try again to see if the same thing happens.
Have you updated to the most recent software? If not, here are the steps:
Press Menu
Press Settings
Press About Phone
Press System Updates
Also, here is a link for the update that provides the steps above, as well as the benefits. This update can resolve the issue for you.
http://support.vzw.com/system_update/droidx2.html
I would also like to provide you with some additional steps, in case the above does not resolve.
1. Power cycle the device.
2. Verify that there isn't a signature or unknown character in the signature from the sender.
3. Verify that there isn't any text or handset restriction enabled. (depending on phone model)
4. Check available memory.
5. Perform a factory reset on the device.
About Step 5: This setting erases all data from your phone, including your Google or other email account settings, system and application data and settings, and downloaded applications. It will not erase current system software and bundled applications, or files stored on an optional installed memory card, such as music or photos. For this reason, please make sure the data on your device is backed up.
Thanks very much and have a good day!

I could only imagine how aggravating that would be, receiving duplicate text messages! There could be a couple of things driving this mishap. First, let me ask do you have any third party text apps installed on your device? I too had the same problem at one time, but it was due to having multiple text apps installed on my phone. If so, remove the applications, then retest. This should clear the issue with receiving duplicate texts.
If not, it may be something in the provisioning of your line could be causing the duplicates. If this is the case, I would suggest sending me a private message so I could reset some settings on your account. I'll send you a message and you can reply with the requested information.
Let me know how this works out for you!

I recently got the same phone and it's doing the same thing. I've reviewed my apps and do not see an alternate text app.

B2W2 and Turbo01stang if you have attempted some of the steps previously posted in regards to fixing the messaging issues and your still experiencing problems, the next step would be to speak with us. We will need to perform additional trouble-shooting.
You can send me a private message with your contact information and I can assist you further with this issue.

I'm getting some random repeats on texts, but nothing like I'm seeing from some of the posters here. It's happened intermittantly for me.

I had Go SMS Pro but uninstalled it. It didn't change anything. The replicating text come from only 2 contacts that I've noticed.

I called into support yesterday and they did something behind the scenes and told me that it might work. It seemed to work for awhile, but today the problem seemed to be worse than before so I actually went into the Verizon store. Tech support there showed me a fix that also didn't work, but she told me that motorola is aware of this bug on this device and should be pushing a software update sometime soon to fix it.
Has anyone found a way to stop it that actually seems to work? I feel like since I started doing the tech support troubleshooting that I've actually been getting even more duplicate messages.

I've been having this same issue with my Droid X for a couple weeks now. Can't think of any update that may have triggered it (Gingerbread has been on there for a while now, so don't think it was that). But I get at least 2 and more often 5 or 6 copies of the same SMS. They show up at random time intervals, anywhere from a few seconds to several hours after the original message.
Since this issue popped up, it also seems to have caused problems with my status bar notifications - occasionally SMS messages don't show up at all on the status bar, and also don't even trigger notifications such as phone vibrate. Very odd issues.
This is with a basically stock Droid X, stock SMS/messaging app, and no third party messaging apps installed at all.

Hello jonbarr,
Thank you for sharing your concern on receiving duplicate messages on your Droid X2. May I ask are the duplicate messages from the same recipient? Also, what carrier are the duplicate text messages coming from? Here are some steps that I recommend that you try to resolve the issue.
1. Power cycle the device.
2. Verify that there isn't a signature or unknown character in the signature from the sender.
3. Verify that there isn't any text or handset restriction enabled. (depending on phone model)
4. Check available memory.
5. Perform a factory reset on the device.
As always, I recommend that all of your personal info is backed up on a PC or memory card prior to performing step number 5. Once you have tried these steps, please reply to this post with the results.
Thank you...

the problem is not specifically to an X2....my Droid X does the same thing and I actually get comments from others that they get multiples of my txt messages, as well as my getting multiples of theirs. if someone gets multiples from me, they always say to me 'you must have Verizon'

I have received duplicate text messages a few times, usually from the same people and no duplicate texts from others. For example, one friend sent a text last night and it duplicated immeadiately. This morning it duplicated again.....hopefully the updte will take care of it.

I have a Droid X and I'm receiving multiple copies of the same text messages, either immediately after each other, or with random amounts of time in between. Factory resets and clearing the cache don't really help. If they do anything, it's only for a short amount of time. There are posts all over the web about this, including Google's Android Issue Tracking. It doesn't seem to be related to a particular phone or particular carrier from what people have said. All I know is someone needs to figure out a way to take care of this that actually works.
